It's hard to believe just how long Edwin has been gone now. Probably the most prolific manufacturer of children's magical effects in the world in his heyday. Based in Bideford, Devon, England. Edwin employed local craftsmen, many working from home I believe. Exquisite silk screening, artwork, precision joinery. Edwin was always there though to answer the phone (ably supported by Ian Adair). His colourful, descriptive manner, - endlessly inventing and re-inventing "bits of business". Supreme Magic equipment still being used the world over, and will be for many, many years to come. Edwin would have delighted at the Internet, and just what sort of service he could have provided. They don't make 'em like Edwin these days!

Though not interested (read: skilled and talentful enough) to take an interest in children's magic, I too do miss the Supreme Magic Co. I a m currently rereading my Magigram issues (Supreme's house magazine) and it is really sad that they no longer are in business. I always felt it to be a friendly firm, and never could complain about their service nor about their material. Cheers to you Edwin wherever you roam in the great beyond.
Ciao for now Erik

Memory lane, When I started work and had a couple of credit cards I then discovered Supreme and ordered from them every month. Loads of great stuff and I enjoyed the Magicgram magazine.
Local magic store here in Seattle has a box full of Supreme stuff, have to have a look through.

Whilst we are speaking of Supreme Magic (which used to be in Bideford, Devon, UK)
I just came across a Supreme exclusive today ... CLAIRVOYANCE by Dr Fleischer. what a wonderful effect ... originated back in the 1960's ... but still a top routine even by today's standards. There is nothing to find. A real fooler. Which, by comparison, would use hi-tech technology today. Not only is it a bit of nostalgia, it is a top class effect. A real collectable. |

Supreme had some wonderful effects. When we first opened we had the opportunity to purchase the Supreme magic line from the current owner plus all of the stock that is in warehouses across the pond. We couldn't come to terms considering we would have had to ship it all here at our expense. The stuff is great - nicely made and colorful. Edwin had a vision and he made it work. Believe it or not he patterned his company from Percy Abbott and always gave him due credit.

Just been looking through my older effects, looking for anything that I could re-introduce to my act. Found Supreme's 'Billy Bob Tail'. Unfortunately, I have no instructions for this effect. Does anyone have a copy? Thanks.

As a future magician I recall asking Neville
Wiltshire where to get props from. He suggested Supreme. don't know if I ever thanked him. Dealing with Edwin or Ian was always a pleasure. I am still using a lot of their UK made props and constantly use "bits of business" gleaned from Supreme publications over the years. |

Great company and great people! I miss them! Ian Adair has a Facebook page and has written a book where he recounts the history of the Supreme Magic Company: excellent reading! It is in short supply, but I believe Ian has a few copies left.

Have great memories of their catalogues as a young magician
and the excitement of sending money orders in the post to the other side of the world and waiting a couple of weeks and a huge package waiting in the letterbox and opening it to a beaut silkscreened prop and effect-Was like real magic...... Great times Cheers |

I have this posted in another area, but placed it here as we'll as it seems relevant
I was going through some old magic stuff and came across my Supreme Magic Knotty Rope Box. I was trying to research it for the possibility of selling it, but can't seem to find any info on it at all, so it's hard to assess the value of it. It's in excellent shape and still has the original instructions with it. If anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated |

Those weree the days, unbelievable really, pre internet, and my orders always arrived in 2 or 3 dats. Edwin was a character alright. I can remember writting up routines for the Magigram and being paid the princely sum of 3 pounds. If anyone is interested I have the full set of Edwins magic. 3 large hardbound books, stuffed full ofmaterial for thr childrens entertainer. I no loner do childrens shows so would be willing to sell them. If only all dealers were like that.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.
