No one would answer this in the other areas so I'd like to take the chance to post it here.

I would just like to ask what effects play big on the street that gets huge reactions from people..

-rubber band tricks/routine namely Crazy Man's Handcuffs?
-Cigarette Manipulations?
-a Watch Steal routine?

thanks for the replies...

The first two ideas are excellent. I have always been a bit reluctant to perform a watch steal on the street. You may tend to get a spectator who feels violated more than entertained... even though ultimately they get their watch back.

The effect (watch steal) is great and requires a skilled performer to do it, and I am sure there are many here who can do it without coming under fire, and it is a super strong effect. It will get an excellent response.

You might do well to really "feel out" your spectator before doing that one on the street.

The watch steal is a good way to get a prison record when you try it on the street. Grrat effect in parlour magic but that's the only place I would do it.l

I would go for carzy man handcuff's. I use this as an impromtu opening. I always get good reactions and I think it makes people want to see more.

Go for all three of those routines in just that order. If you're on the street (or in any "non-staged" venue) it's relatively simple to build a crowd with the CMH routine. The ones who like it will stick around for more. Assuming you're good at it, they'll all stick around.

Cigarette manip is fantastic, but depending on your crowd, you could turn some non-smoking tippers away. My tip... keep the cig lit for as short a time possible.

Watch stealing (once again, assuming you're good at it) is a great crowd pleaser. Before you commit to performing the watch steal, go get the video on the subject by the late, great master of the watch steal, Chappy Brazil. This is a must. Trust me.

Here's the bottom line... it doesn't matter which routines you're performing on the street; if you're not a good performer, even the best routines won't wow and audience. First and foremost, learn to perfect your PRESENTATION before you get out there.

It's not WHAT you do, it's HOW you do it.

The wallet steal definitely gives you the biggest reactions and best tips. (Not if you return it though.)

1. Mastering the Art of Pickpocketing with James Coats.
2. Stealing the Show. (I think it is called.)

"Mastering the Art of Pickpocketing with James Coats"

James Coats had a bad review on his watch steal video.
I'm afraid this one is going to be bad too..

The rubber bands are much more "improptu". you're always ready to go. And fully examinable.
Kind Regards,

Try the Pinnacle dvd. Do a search about this first.

Gaetan Bloom has a great RB effect as well.
