I am pretty new to comedy and magic, and I am looking for some great tricks I can throw in my stand-up comedy routine. Preferrably, I am looking for stuff like card tricks using big cards or some type of mentalism trick. Any suggestions?

Magic79 if you’re new to comedy I would get your comedy act down before adding complexity to it.
Also you can’t just “throw in” magic tricks or anything else into an act and expect it to work. Before looking for tricks, look at your act and try to find places where the magic can flow in naturally. If you just get a couple of tricks and jam them into your act it will look awkward and forced. Chris |

The vanishing banadana is the greatest. Samual Pattrick some great stuff on using big cards or some type of mentalism trick and they are easy to do. His tricks are for kids, but I have used them in adult shows to and they loved it.

There are two, one from Axtell in a puppet format with big lips on a plant See:
http://www.axtell.com/othanim.html And the other has to be made see Man-eating Plant The Vanishing Banana is absolutely great with a group of kids. With adults, it is not as powerful and I have seen good magicans flop with this because they were out of character in doing it.

Magic 79, welcome. lots of good leads for you there, however, pay heed to the words of 'carbone1853'. funny effects are only funny in the hands of funny people.
I really do welcome you and hope I'm not teaching you how to suck eggs.

Dsilverfield,
I've been to http://www.electrofunmagic.com but can't see any ref to "The vanishing Ace of Diamond behind a Mat". Can you give a specific URL to it?
Warmest regards

If you are a NEWBIE - go for the Bandana - why not? EVERYONE ELSE DOES IT!!!! See my rantings under Banana bandana, but if you have any kind of professional dignity, come up with something original.
I have to admit, The man eating plant has me curious, and so does "diamond behind a mat" I may not be cynical, just over exposed to lots of bad magic and uncreative performers. |
