Now I know a lot of you make a career of close up magic, but to me it is a very fufilling hobby. I don't plan on having it as a career, but I do preform street magic in my spare time. I just have a quick survay, how many of you look at magic as a career and how many of you look at it as a hobby

I look at magic as something I would LIKE to turn into a career. I perform shows and that kind of thing now but I wouldn't call it my career...I'm still in High School.

At the moment for me it's somewhere in between. I'd love to make my living as a magician, but I'm not there yet; it's a second (OK, third) business. However, I may have an interesting opportunity coming up in a couple of weeks and that could all change (for the better). I'll keep you posted.

Hobby. I like Stefan's comment that it's therapy. Probably closer to the truth for me too.

Well, after 23 years of school, I'd have to say magic is a hobby.
If I could earn half of what I make at "work" by performing magic...I'd quit in an instant, though.
What is the color of magic?

This isn't really a card question...
Anyways, it is a way for me to get out of my shell. It is my favorite form of therapy, next to electro-shock.
By the time you read this, you've already read it.

It's my career...AND my hobby...AND my therapy...and one of my passions! But certainly not the ONLY one nor is it remotely the most important one.

For me, magic is a hobby, mentalism is a career (or future career, to be more exact, since I still have another year of school before I can do it full time).

It shouldn't matter.
For almost everyone, it starts as a hobby and, if you can turn a hobby into a career, that's fine. If it remains a hobby, that's fine, too. I managed to turn a hobby into a career. But a great deal of the creative thought in magic comes from the hobbyist. So, going back to square one, it shouldn't matter. cheers, Peter Marucci showtimecol@aol.com |

Kard16,
Between gigs if it is a long stretch I think of magic as a hobby. If I am working weekly I think of it as a career. My goal is to invent a magic experience that all can enjoy. Dolini
