For those of you that occasionally use close up mats what is your prefered size ?

I was looking at eh new mats by TCC but I'm not sure if they are a bit to large at roughly 19.5 x 13.5 inches.

It depends on what will be sitting on it. If you are using the mat for a Cups and Balls routine, then larger is better. For smaller props, a smaller mat should work.

The mat should be large enough so the props are not cramped on it.

I suggest that you place the largest items you will be using on a table comfortably and then measure the length and width with some room to spare.
