My larger kits come with 12 effects. But I also have smaller kits that have 5.

My current kit has 3 tricks, a toy wand, and a couple of other special items.

You are all taking a pile of dog poo poo way too seriously. It is a great gag item and if Magic Grandpa wants to sell in what he calls a magic kit, then he should be more than welcome to.
Unless I missed it in one of his posts, Magic Grandpa did not ask for a critique on his package he only shared his opinion about Robbins as a supplier and what he includes in his kit. I can't see any justifiable reason to going over and over with the statement of your same opinions of his kit. If it works for him I say well done Magic Grandpa. Martin

Martin the discussion here is not about selling dog poo. If he wants to sell it then go for it. I have no problem with that. My problem lies in false advertising and why you would want to sell practical jokes as a kit and call it a magic set.
Why not simply sell a practical joke kit? You would still probably get the sales any ways and you would be honest about it. You also would not be getting complaints. To me any complaint from a customer or prospect is one too many. Kyle

Kyle, your right, this is not a discussion about dog poo. This is a discussion about stuff to sell after the show that has gone way off topic. I believe it is time for the post to back where it started rather than to continue down this right turn. Only my opinion.

How much do you sell your kits for?

I use a popcorn DYE box. I put the tricks inside and then I put a color label on the box and shrink wrap it. The popcorn box idea came from Eddy Wade.

Ken,
Brilliant! This is the second very clever idea I heard of from Eddy Wade. (Tim Sonefelt showed me another one, something licensed from Eddy, which he uses.) Does he lecture on this, or have a line of licensed products? He seems to know promotion / BOR very well. I can't seem to find a website. - Donald. P.S. I assume that you are using legitimate E-Z Magic originals of Tommy Windsor's popcorn dye box? Do you get them in bulk from Robbins? Or is it public domain? Can a person die cut their own, if they own the book? I ask, because you mentioned the label aspect.

Nice idea Ken. It is a great object that you can find and is not too costly. It would make for a good container for the magic effects and easy enough to place a nice label on to help brand it more to you.

Donald:
To answer your question about making your own dye box, according to the dye box book you are allowed to make your own. Commercial Production was apparently only given to certain companies with Tommy retaining copyright to the design, title and original directions. It doesn't include D. Robbins in that list of authorized, but I'm assuming that is because my copy of the Dye Box Book is copyright 1947 and was written before they received the manufacturing rights. Martin

Zaam101:
Basic effect, place a silk into box and then pull it back out a different color :=) hence, Popcorn Dye Box. Now open box and show on both sides to show it is empty. You could also use it for productions as well as vanishes. This is the cheapest online price I found of $2.50 retail here: http://www.clownantics.com/productionmagic.shtml Hope that helps. Martin

Can any one answer Salazar Magic questions:
How do you package these kits? I'm wondering about other kinds of boxes and wrapping How many effects do you put in one kit? How much do you sell your kits for? I'm also wondering about mark up

Mark Up is usually 4X your cost. Common prices for the magic kits are in the price range $10-15 each.
A small box will usually hold it with your own professional instructions and colorful promo sheet on the top of box. Jon Jensen used to put out a set of professional standard magic trick instructions and how to create the kit. Seems he paid 3.20 and sold the set for $60. How many effects you put in is a personal preference. On avaerage they seem to range 10 to 12 items. Hope this helps Martin

I like to place the tricks in a clear plastic bag. This way every trick can be clearly seen and the parents and kids know exactly what they are getting. I then make a doubled over header that folds in half and gets stapled to the top of each bag.
This is both easy to do, cost effective and allows you to even hang up the kits on hooks for easier viewing at your BOR table. I also sell my kits for $10. Kyle

I have not done this but it seems like a great idea.
Get wholesale stuff from S.S. Adams! They post a wholesale pricelist on their website. You could buy a dozen magic kits to give to the birthday people and some cheap magic to sell after the show.
