Dennis,

I agree with The Dean! I too want to see more details, like what is inside and what it looks like. I think you would draw more customers once we see your Instant Author book.

Likewise James Muntons post is just an ad for a website from 'The Munton Group'

If you are looking for basic magic tricks to sell I go right to the manufacturer.

SS ADAMS COMPANY.

I am not affiliated with them in any way but they all the basic tricks, cups and balls, dime and penny, spike thru coin, ball & vase, coin vanisher rings, etc.

I buy a dozen of specific tricks and sell the whole kit for a 50% markup.

If you keep your eyes open you can find good magic tricks and such in many different locations. I always look at dollar stores as well as a local store that is called 5 Below. They often times will carry some really nice tricks that I can use for BOR or to include in a larger magic kit.

Also something to keep in mind is that you will want effects that empower the buyer. These are effects that are easy for them to do and understand. You do not want to frustrate the customer. You want to empower them and get them feeling good about themselves that they can do these tricks that you are seeling as part of your BOR.

Just something to think about.

Hi Plasticdestiny,

I would hope my above post is more than just an ad for my Instant Magic Book System.

I was primarily trying to show my thinking when it comes to choosing products to sell - i.e. select a product that is appropriate for your audience and cut down your hassles to a minimum and have a product that is easy to produce and sell. I also mentioned Paul's excellent DVD which I have no financial interest in.

A search for Instant Author/Magic Books/DVDs will provide several alternative products to choose from.

Feel free to contact me by PM if you would like additional information - I really don't want to appear to be using this fine forum just to sell my products.

They all pay for themselves in just a couple of shows and will save you a ton of time putting one together for yourself.

Best,
James

Throughout my summer fair tour, I took out the two cards tricks I normally do and did Don Drivers Svengali Pitch in there place. I was doing between 3 & 4 shows a day and I averaged about 3 to 8 sales after each show.

Hope this helps,
Mike

I'm kinda late here, but I've noticed something weird with my BOR sales. We used to sell an 8x10 photo for $3. I did everything I could to pitch it, and a few would buy it. Then, we added our big full color poster to the mix, with the thinking that since the poster costs a lot more, the kids may not be allowed to have the poster but now they CAN have the comparatively cheap photo. So, in essence, I didn't really expect to sell the poster because it was only an aid to move the photos. Well, I still haven't sold a lot of the photos, but the posters sell like crazy! Strange, huh?

Not strange at all if you ask me. What it tells you is a few things 1) people really are enjoying your show and want something to remember it by and 2) your prices for your posters and for your photos are too low and you may want to increase them. That is usually what I do for my festival BOR sales. I track every sale we do for every event and how many of each item sells. This way after the event is over, I can see what trends are forming and rearrange my prices if I need to.

Phil:

How much is the poster, and who did you have print them?

I wouldn't have believed it to be possible if I hadn't seen it myself, but what I have is a very high quality color copy done on glossy heavy stock, and the result is an outstanding poster! I created the poster myself- this I can do, but I'm smart enough not to try and print them myself. I have a deal worked out with a local print shop here. 11x17's cost me 75 cents- not a bad deal!
