The old Russian Rings Routine seems to being now sold as Rainbow Rings out of China. But, some rings have six rings.

Is anyone performing either of these today? How do they differ - if any?

Rainbow rings is crap because the rings are cheap card stock and they have too much friction to be suitable for performance. Another run of Laflin's Russian Rings was produced about two years ago and while not quite as nice as the first run, which came out a long time ago, the new ones are fine for performance. The trick is pretty but it lacks a kicker.

I use it to explain what happened to the evening news when the three major networks shifted to entertainment over actual news reporting.

Hi, friends of the fraternity .Yes Funsway , I have the original Rainbow Rings otherwise known as the Rainbow Rings which I bought over 35 years ago from Practical Magic , They are large Vinyl rings ,and they each change from black to rainbow colours , to applause on each transformation., I do not perform it in the lacklustre way shown in the demonstrations, and as shown on the internet, videos.
I show each record as I waver it high and from side to side but slowly so that everyone can see what’s happening properly and to let the effect register with the audience,

The rainbow effect has a huge kick and you should hear applause on each of the transformations , The way it is shown in the demonstrations and on the net videos is not very inspiring in my humble view, and should not be copied.

I have purchased recently smaller rings for parlour , and I have suitable patter instead of music,

This is a stunning effect and frankly should be immune from criticism . I shall be happy to help with queries , I have been perming this effect over 25 years,
There is a beginning too for this effect and a very amusing finish which always seems to get laughter, It’s wonderful no matter what your style,
