Love the thinking here. Really neat discovery about beer bottles. And equally neat 'melt' illusion. They combine to make a fresh new take on coin in bottle. What drew me to purchase was the idea that it was truly an impromptu "anytime there's a beer and a penny you'e ready to go" routine. Unfortunately it is not. I don't even mind a little set up. What I don't like is the need for a certain something to pull this off as seen in the demo. That takes it from something where you find yourself at a bar or restaurant and with a simple set up being ready to go versus having to leave your house with a gimmick albeit a fairly innocous one, in hand. And given my lifestyle, there will be very few times this will make sense for me. But that can be said for nearly any and all coin in bottle effects. So please don't take that as a knock. I'm truly blown away that this creator found a wonderfully new, novel approach to one of the most explored effects in magic.

There is another version of the optical rise where you don’t need that certain something, you just won’t get a retention of vision, but it can still be done. It can also be done form the side of the bottle instead of the bottom. You could even do your favorite coin vanish and the coin appears in the bottle. There have been many instances where I’ve done this off the cuff when I happened to see a bottle and a penny out and about…at least one of these scenarios is shown in the trailer. Your situation will dictate which version you perform but if you can think on your feet and especially if you have an arsenal knowledge of coin sleights etc, I really think you’re limited only by your imagination here. You could even have a confederate help you but a quick trip to the bathroom will suffice, you’d be surprised where you can sit and setup for a minute or 2 (for TV doing this live, a confederate can help you make this signed by a spectator on the spot). Also if anyone knows French Kiss by Wayne Houchin, have the spectator sign the bottle itself and the magician initials the coin that goes into the bottle and cannot come back out…this is another way to go outside of the signed version I teach on the download. Hope this helps and made sense! MJ |

Agree with all the positive reviews - this is really really good! Michael could have easily just explained the main effect but he kindly provides quite a few other options and other ways of doing it! I think I’ll mostly perform the main routine and in some situations, with some additional sleight of hand and a bit of time misdirection, you could probably do a signed version of it (think double signature whereby the spectator signs one side and you sign the other side etc.). Again you will have to be in one specific situation to do that (or bring your own bottle) but it could potentially work. Very nice effect, thanks Michael!

I love visual effects in general.
I really like Card Through Window, Card Through Glass Table, Coin Through Glas, ... Or where a coin melts slowly through the bottle and that's what makes those effects so powerful. I would like to make a comparison. There are classic Coin in Bottle versions where the coin is smashed through the bottle. The advantage is that any bottle can be used and it can be performed anywhere. The disadvantage is that this "visual", this slow melting is missing, this illusion cannot be seen. And there are some effects like Michael's "Pretty Penny". The advantage here is that it's very visual, you can see how the coin very slowly penetrates the bottle. The disadvantage is that I have to have the right bottle and the right coin. Then I have to make a preparation. I come from germany we use Euros, Cent's and I know that a 1 cent coin is too small. A 1 cent coin fits through the opening of every bottle. It might work with a 2 cent coin. But for me personally a 2 cent coin is too small for this effect. Because the coin is too small, I think the illusion is lost. A 5 cent coin is definitely too big. And those are the problems I see. Another good example is Justin Miller's "God Mod" ( Shatetered project) Coin in Bottle: https://ellusionist.com/products/shattered I really like his routine. Also a very nice and visual penetration and the routine is really very well structured. Here it's not the coin problem because you can use any coin, here is bottle problem. I have to have the right bottle. A third very good example would be this Coin in Bottle: https://vimeo.com/913437224 This is an ultra, ultra visual penetration of the coin into the bottle but here is again a problem but a totally different problem. What I want to say is, such beautiful slow coin in bottle penetrations really look very nice. Wow! But unfortunately these routines also have the disadvantages I described above. I would be interested to know what you prefer? Do you prefer a classic Coin in Bottle with F-----g C--n that can be performed anywhere, without any preparation and with any bottle, or such visual coin in bottle like Michael's "Pretty Penny" where you need the right bottle (with preparation) or Justin Miller' "God Mod" where you also need the right bottle? This means that it is best if you always have these bottles with you in your case (whether Michael's or Justin's routine). Which would you choose, classic or visual? |

For my impossible souvenir method, you do not need the right coin and the right bottle - you can use any bottle where the coin will not fit inside the mouth, there are just some variables at play. I talk about this in detail on the download and the difference between the 2 impossible souvenir core methods I teach. The difference is that this is a SYSTEM. Check out this early review of Pretty Penny by Marcus’s Magic Review for more details on my authentic coin in bottle system: https://youtu.be/FAokv6mc7H4?si=RI0AJ1rMLnLlO1W4 Hope this helps. MJ |

OK as promised I had a chance just a few moments ago to show this to my beautiful wife. And here is my review.
The reason it took me so long is I knew I had a double-sided quarter and I finally found it. I'm using that. It's tails on both sides and then I use a shiny penny heads up on top of the quarter. I'm using the handling where you have a penny and a quarter in your hand or in their hand and then you place the bottle on top of it. Shake it a couple of times and the penny penetrates the bottle. I like this handling because it is so up close and kind of in their face and you can see everything right up until the last moment. When I showed it to my wife I First showed her the quarter then I Supposedly got the other penny and put it on top. I then put the bottle on top of the quarter and the penny gave it a shake and the penny was in the bottle. My wife almost did not want to touch the bottle thinking it could be gimmicked. When I told her no go ahead try to get the penny out. Her reaction was fantastic! Honestly I highly recommend this and if you have a double-sided quarter it is well worth using that as they see the coin heads up Or tails up and then it remains that way even after the penny penetrates the bottle. It's just a little nuance but I think it's well worth getting a double-sided coin. Most of us probably already have one or two laying around. Good magic to all, Eric |

This is a really great magic effect, but has one limitation that is somewhat bothersome. Without going into detail, for those of us that are not beer drinkers or performing in a situation where there is no beer, I imagine that this would be quite difficult to perform. I cannot even show it to my wife since we do not drink beer. The instructions are specific and to perform, you need something that you may not have. I never tried it since the props are out of my zone of reality, but it still is a great magic trick and perhaps one day I wi;; find a way to perform it.

Have been doing Prohibition for years, even modified it at the end with the folded cap being dumped into my hand as it is magically restored to an unbent bottle cap. But may have to pick this up, great price point even if I decide it is not something I would replace Prohibition in my walk around.

The penetration one where the penny appears to penetrate through the bottle can in fact be done live.
The only thing is because of how close people need to get to see it. You can only have maybe 2 people that close were they could actually see what appears to be the penny penetrating the bottle. Cleanup would be a breeze because you simply turn the bottle upside down and show the penny cannot come out. Done correctly you can have the majority of the clean up out of the way. I just personally happen to like the penny and quarter affect better because it threw me off at first. If anyone has any more questions please feel free to ask on here or send me a personal message. I really like this effect a lot and recommended it. Good magic to all, Eric |

Also although I do not drink beer my company deals with recycling. So I'm able to get loads of beer bottles and I simply wash them out and use them. For those who do not drink if you have a recycling center around you you may want to go there give them maybe a quarter for a bottle and I'm sure you'll have what you need.

I think as magicians we have grown tired of the method of slamming a coin into a bottle so this slow motion melt through really appeals to us as something new and different. But I’m not convinced that the reactions wouldnt be just as strong with laypeople using a traditional “slam” through method.
But having said that I really do like Michael's work on this method quite a lot and it’s always great to have options. In fact, maybe a quick slam thru for a first phase and then a follow up version done nice and slow and very close up would make for the perfect routine. |
