The way I do street magic is a bit.....unusual, I pose as a beggar. But I've found the best tricks are the ones which don't LOOK like tricks. Effects like cups & balls, silk-routines, big-multiple coin tricks, linking rings, sponge balls....theyre good effects, but theyre obviously 'magic'. Tricks like the bitten quarter, or rubber-bands (C.M.H.), or cigg-thru-coin, use COMMONPLACE objects, and the SURPRISE effect is what really gets people. For a street card trick, the invisible deck & / marked deck are the best way to go, but only do them as your 2nd / 3rd trick, after it's been established that you can work magic with ordinary items. Other whompers are the stealth pen, and a pre-set healed & sealed can is a MUST-have crowd nailer. Now here's one of my faviorite angles: Learn the Kevin James rose routine, and have the flash-paper lying around as litter, or planted in a nearby trashcan. If it's windy, you can put it in an empty ciggarete box as the lining. When you pick up an ordinary, miscelaneous discarded piece of wastepaper, and origami it, then transform it into a real rose....oh lordy, the LOOKS on their faces!! If I had to choose 5, they would be:
1)Healed & sealed 2)Kevin James floating rose 3)Stealth-pen 4)TT (preferably the eclipse style) 5)Invisible deck
Everybody wants to beleive.....we just help them along.

After doing street magic awhile, I got the best response from doing the, stealth pen, floating match, 2 card monte, floating rose, and the coin bite. I do some custom card tricks also. I would reccomend if you do card tricks use the "Bicycle Black Tiger Deck". I get a better response from the crowd for some reason when I use them. Hope this helps

Anything that floats and has something to do with fire is a great crowd gatherer.
Anything that has to do with body magic gives screams. :) |

Ohh yeahhh, streat magic rocks!! ordinary objects are definately the way to go, stuff you can find on the street or somebody carries arround, like cigarretes, coins, dollar bills, pens, ruberbands, keys, watch, soda cans, etc. I always use somebody elses objects, when I give them back, the cant belive what they just saw. Yeah, sponge balls are something people love, but that's not street like. Speak very little, do very much... I ask some body for a cigarrete, do some manipulation, do a short levitation and end it with a no sleave vanish, and BAAAAMM! Jaws are dropping.. before they have time to ask me where the cigarrete is I load another one and apear it from somewhere else... Yeah! I love street magic, How about that one where you ask somebody to place a coin in their hand, You say your gona try to steal it before the can close their hand, You go for it, boom! they manage to close it and laugh because they beat you! BUT NO!! OHH NO!! open your hand... YEAHH OHH YEAHH! that's not your coin, that my coin! an Arcade Coin, "i was just heading there, you wanna join me?"
Is there any body else that does triks they did'nt buy in a store? SHARE, PLEASE SHARE.... |

I usually do street magic with sleight of hand. No props or gimmicks. If other things are required, I pull out my cards.
The Healed & Sealed soda trick is awesome for street magic. I even do it without the..nevermind..it might be exposed.. hehe.. |

Without cards:
-Sight Unseen Routine- peek wallet routine with my own touches -Sneak Theif Supreme- impossible psychometry and a drawing duplication climax (all on four ordinary business cards) -recap -casino light- I've modified it to my own standards, but three random choices, a prediction and an audience in disbelief -coin routine- appearance, coins across, coin bend, coin transformations, coin vanishes. it keeps building to its final climax with cards: -biddle trick- I know its a begginner trick, but its one of my best because of so much experience. the first trick I learned! -cards to pockets -out of this world -whit hayden's impromptu card code -here than there transpo |

I agree. Do the stuff that does not look like magic. If you pull out a set of rings, everyone knows whats coming. If you borrow a coin and bite through it, or a bill and shove a pencil through it, etc., it really makes an impact.

These ones really worked for me: Steve Fearson's Floating Cigarette, card tricks done in Blaine's style (like 2 Card Monte, Invisible Deck), rubber band tricks.

Hmmm. I guess I'd go with:
PK magic - linked rings, watch stop, coin flip in spectator hand (I use two very small versions of the gimmick, one in my hand, and one on a chain around my neck) Total Eclipse - Original routine - coin production/transposition sequence The Daley Show Brainwave Deck Emperor's Coins - S. Dusheck mentalism effect using pocket change. Mike |
