What is your favorite method for deck switching in the middle of an effect (not in-between two effects) during strolling situations?
I switch in my pocket while searching for a pen, but I'm concerned that about one in ten follow that hand and seem suspicious. Don't know if it's my handling or my presentation. |

Maybe it's your handling. You might like to have the same bottom card on both decks so when you do the switch they see the same card go INTO the pocket as comes out.
What I do is pat breast pockets with both hands, pat pants pockets with both hands, pat jacket pockets and then reach in with BOTH hands. Bring out pen with left hand as I bring out deck with right hand a splt second later. |

I'll give it a shot. Also, just to clarify, the deck in in the box when the switch is made.
Thanks Nicholas. |

Check out the Tamariz timing in one of his books. It's the off that makes it work... you need something between the drop and the take.

When I do my lectures on looking natural I always say if you are going into your pocket to switch or dump make sure you come out with something. I use the same switch and people look at me all the time just don'e make a big thing out of it. Just do it and go on.

Check out Tommy Wonder's work on the deck switch. It's covered in the books of wonder in the card in ring box effect. His timing is brilliant and actually solves the problem of fumbling in the pocket. Also check out Alex Elmsley's work in the Elmsley books. He has a switch called the empty hand switch (if I remember correctly) another brilliant solution.
BTW I know Michael CLose uses the Tommy Wonder switch to good use in a couple of effects... |

Are you entering both pockets looking for a pen?
Jay sankey has an effect where he switches packets of envelops and he does it right under their noses. He does it by reaching in both pockets and coming out with something in the "clean" hand.
