Although this isn't about playing cards, it is about cards. I forget what you call them, but I'm sure you guys are familiar with that familiar gimmick of a stack of business cards (or other cards, index, etc.) with a rubber band around them. Lately I've been trying to come up with something really powerful with them, but I've been drawing a blank. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I think you mean the Genii cards, used for predictions and mentalism type effects.

What's the effect? I liked Jay Sankey's rubber band trick on his DVDs. That's about the only Sankey thing I've ever liked

The gimmick basically allows something to appear on a signed card, although it wasn't there when the spectator signs it. So, a message, prediction, etc., appears on the spectator's signed card "magically". The gimmick has such a wide variety of uses.

Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic has an entire section devoted to effects using the Out To Lunch principle.

Paul Harris also has one in AOA. Another one that comes to mind is in one of my Linking Ring magazines.
Funny enough after going through these magazines lately, I noticed certain Café member in them. Pete Biro's name appears in a few as well as Peter Marucci, who has/had his own column-showtime. Amazing. Not only do we have Richard Osterlind, there are other hidden celebrities. Andre |

Dave Acer has a version of that using post cards in his latest dvd On Screen and Other Mysteries. Once you get the priciples of Out to Lunch or Genii, you'll be able to make up your own variations.

Picture This by Richard Sanders is a really, really strong Out to Lunch effect. Repeat it with different outcomes at a gathering and watch them compare the giveaway cards. Priced way too cheaply at Camirand Academy among others.
