Thanks Lee!

Great ideas! I will start using a lazer pointer in my dove act in spring because a new method of dove training will be used in the act. Your routine gives me an out if I am caught (or not caught) with the lazer pointer.

I do kids shows with a partner and we throw the light from handf to hand and then we play catch thn we eat the light. after that we pull the light ou of a kids ear or nose.to end it we have a red silk palmed and we reveal the red silk just as we let the lights go out. or if we aren't aloowed to use fire at a specific venue we use dlite (ex. for "lighting" up thwe chick pan).

Are d'lites round? I saw the demo at penguinmagic and they look like glowing balls. Is that how they are suppose to look like?

I don't know what kind of a copyright Rocco has on D'lite, but cheaper versions have been sold for years over here in Japan. These cost about ten bucks a pair and can be bought at just about any magic shop...they even sell them at Tokyo Disneyland!

My favorite D'lite "move":

After some of the standard juggling/throwing moves, I place one gimmick in my mouth and push it against the inside of my cheek. This causes the cheek to glow red. I then pluck the lite "through" my cheek; a penetration! I came up with this move independantly - does anyone else do it?

The main reason I have not used the D'lite is that I have never seen or thought of a good ending...

Placing lite back in a laser is OK...but, not very magical in my humble opinion.

Any thoughts ? .... Since D'lite is a very visual effect...having a visual kicker ending would be perfect...but what ? maybe a red silk flash production ?

PS: The idea of using it as a lie detector is also clever.

I've spent more time using D-Lites than I care to remember
The only limitation is your imagination, other than that there is no limit, you can pass light through anything, take light from anywhere, produce light anywhere, you can engage your audience in many forms, use them for many corny jokes (light snack, light headed, head lights - on and on ....)
Pair them with fire effects, silks
Children love them and they play well in bars also
Many "lay persons" have them already
Occasionally I will run across someone who knows what they are when I'm using them, if they say so I usually say "Shh don't tell" and wink

There was a question earlier about the light dying out and having to buy a new set of D'lites, but you can replace the battery. Lift up the little flap and pop it out and take it to radio shack, they should be able to get you and identical one (you will know what I am talking about if you have a D'lite).

DO NOT BUY NEW ONES!!!
Always remember, the best effects cost nothing. Practice is worth more than gold.

I love Jeff McBride's routine with these, it combines the D'Light with a lighted fan and a string of lights. And the presentation about "ideas" is very nice. Has anyone seen this?

I think the effect itself is becoming one of those public knowledge fiascos, simply because it looks cool and it's accessible. I think using it as a utility device though always shows promise.

As Peter says, “underrated magic gimmicks.”

This is one of those tricks that are often referred to as “over used.” Nothing could be further from the truth. I always have them in my pockets (left and right.) As mentioned above, they are great around elevators.

If I am in a restaurant, and a child walks by with those lights in their shoes, I will always stop eating and go to work. It never fails to make a child watch in disbelief as I “remove” a light or two. Then they always stamp their foot to make sure they still have working lights. Although my purpose for doing this is just to spread a little joy, I have (twice) been asked for a business card when they found out I was a magician.

They are also very useful at a birthday show in a home. If I have time, I will help greet the children at the door using d’Lites. This clearly helps warm the kids up to me before the show.

Another fun thing to do if you have a server that looks like she (or he) could use a lift. With one “rigged hand, have a glass of water “glowing.” Tell the waitperson that there is something in the water. If they respond well, use your other gimmicked hand to “remove” the light, and eat it.

With the first light bellow the water line, outside the glass of course, the whole glass glows.

Then just say, “never mind.”

J S Berry's finger phazers are WAY brighter. Only use them if a kid has those sneakers with the red led lights in them. I bring him up front and remover a light fron his sneaker (ala red finger phazer). Then I let him blow it out and the one in my other hand lights up and someone else blows that one out. Do that a few times. Then like mom and day say....it goes in one ear and out the other. They are always in my right and left pocket.

BTW I do own a set of d'lites. Dosen't everybody.

I'll never use one in an adult performance but my kids (4 and 2 yrs old) sure love it when I break 'em out so I assume I'll use them in a kids performance if I ever do one.

Paradise, having a three year old boy, who loves magic, and another baby on the way, I loved your last line. You are so right and just convinced me to go out and get D´Lites.

This product has been on the market for a while. When I first saw it it blew me away...like you my grenason loved it, from age 3...4...5...6...7...8...9 he still does...now he doesit himself. I got a fine set of eerie ears and custonm made a red floating zombie light bulb and the effect is complete. Rocco is the best...hope he does as well with his stamper but it doesent appear to have the broad appeal
