In performing Ken Dynes Hijacked card calling routine, I am wanting to add some humor to the revelations. Questions:
Do you know a source for comedy card revelations? Are there any lines about specific cards that would add interest and humor? How do you make funny card revelations? What funny situations could be manufactured that would be funny? Etc. Thanks for your ideas! |

Right? The Entertainment, humor, drama, suspense, etc. should come from the performer not the tricks.

That may be, but my question still stands:
What do funny card revelations have to do with mentalism?

Should you decide to pursue comedic mentalism, I think Jay Sankey's "Boris Pocus Extremely Mental" is brilliant and hilarious, but the comedy truly comes from his character.

If it is about revealing a thought of card. Which is a basic plot for mentalism. I think adult/dirty humour will work quite often.
Psychological approach: For instance. You know the card via preferred methods. You ask the participant to imagine blackness on the right side and redness on the left side. You suddenly scare him and claim to read the chosen colour from their reaction. This should cause laughter. Then you say it could either be clubs or spades and ask him the following question: How many sexual partners have you had? Usually the participant laughs and completely loses their poker-face, which you use to apparently read him whether its clubs or spades. Ian Rowland has some presentational material related to this. So if your persona is not funny I think dirty humour often offers a way to incorporate laughter in your performance. Do not overdo it though. Alternately you can analyze the subject in a funny manner. For example reading the character of the person who picked or thought of a card. They have chosen the King of hearts. You deduce the card from their behaviour, appearance etc.with humouristic approaches. "Red cards are often picked by very empathetic human beings. Spades in general attracts very goal orientated people. But clubs however, is usually picked by PERVERTS, You did not by any chance pick a club?" If you go down that road, be aware that it might be offensive and make sure that the humouristic "diss" is just implied rather than name-called.
Sincerely,
