I have bought custom coins for many decades. First from Todd Larsen and then Jamie Schoolcraft. I recently purchased a Dean Set of Walkng Lib with half es withy the s****l. Great milling on the edges. However the s***** did not fit down on the regular coin well. It did not cover the coin but had as significant amount raised above the coin. I sent two different messages to Jamie with no response. This is not like previous work of his that I have purchased. Has anyone else had that experience?

Expanded or unexpanded shell? They fit differently.

Deans set is made with unexpanded Shell a remilled coin and that shell is specifically made for those coins only .
Just try that’s all you can do , never give up .

I have a Schoolcraft unexpanded Kennedy half set, and a Schoolcraft Walking Liberty OXF set.
Neither are Dean's Sets. The shell fits probably two thirds over the sides of the insert coins. Maybe three quarters. The Kennedy shell fits extremely well. When I received the WL OXF set, I thought the shell fir was a little loose. It chattered when handled. Jamie, via Jennae, offered to re-make the shell. When I received the new shell the fit was exceptional. No chatter. Jamie does great work, but I do think sometimes one needs to ask for excellence. As far as edge coverage of a shell, the best is achieved with an unexpanded shell set. From my experience. |
