I recently acquired Jay Sankey's Devil's Tail and I've really been enjoying it. I generally wear the ring on a single length of rope around my neck for my ring and string routine. However I would love to also have a short routine with just the rope itself.
Without carrying other separate lengths of rope, does such a routine exist? I'm quite new to rope magic, and I haven't gotten much further on this question than "I will tie a knot, just kidding no I won't." Mark Wilson's Complete Course has a gag "thread the needle" effect which didn't feel right for my character. Also welcome are suggestions that use a single length of rope in combination with some other non-ring item. Cheers all for input and insights |

Tying a knot without letting go of the ends, snapping a knot onto the rope, rope though neck, and the Shoelace effect to name few.
In my Medieval Camp hopping days, I had a dozen effect using a length of leather thong, usually shifting to using a "found" object as an additonal prop. For example, the handle of a mug cna be used in ring on setting effect. Many cut/restore effects, of course. I think the Fulvis book on rope effects has many

Dennis Loomis had a great knot routine with one rope as well as a lot of other rope info on:

My memory is that Devils Tail uses sort of a cord rather than a rope. Some adjustments would have to be made to make most rope moves work with a thin cord.

Might check out Pop Haydn's Mongolian Pop Knot routine. A good Pop Haydn comedy rope effect.
