Last year I had a client who sent payment via a mobile check service.
Its pretty cool, essentially a 3rd party company send you a secured digital copy of a check. You print it out, then you deposit it on your phone's banking app. But apparently there's something called mobile deposit scam: "Mobile deposit scams typically involve criminals manipulating unsuspecting victims into depositing fraudulent checks through mobile banking apps, or into releasing their login information for the scammers to do so. They exploit the time it takes for banks to verify the legitimacy of checks, enabling scammers to receive the funds before the banks uncover the fraud." This week, I encountered a scammer who tried to hit me with the mobile deposit scam. If they didn't "insist" on using mobile check and having other red flags like claiming to be Living Threads which is a Michigan based religious organization, but hosting an event at Utah State University LOL, I might have fell for it. When I called Living Threads to let them know, they told me someone got a copy of their mobile check and have been scamming people with it. So gang, be aware

The more ways that are developed to deposit money remotely legitimately, the more ways there are to be scammed.

A lot of scams out there, one recent one red flagged because the address they gave me has just sold three days before. The scammer chose the most recent sold listing on Zillow as their address.
