Cafe members! I'm writing an article on what wallets people carry as their:
1) EDC (every day carry). Specifically what wallet you carry around with your credit cards and cash on a day to day basis when you leave home. This may or may not also be your performing wallet. 2) Performing Wallets. Not necessarily wallets you own (as many of us have a few of them!) but wallets that you use to perform effects in your repertoire in restaurants, weddings or other paid venues. Hope that makes sense. Mine are 1) EDC Wallets - JOL Packet Trick Wallet and Shelby Wallet. 2) Performing Wallets - JOL Packet Trick Wallet (to carry effects and billets in), Large JOL Plus wallet, Jaks Wallet and Shelby Wallet (depending on what I am performing).

My everyday main wallet is not a magic wallet, just cant find one to do what I want, and carry what I need but not be too big ( if I was forced to use a magic wallet for everyday it would be the Infinity ). But, I also take The Greek Peek with me now replacing Shelby ( for now at least )
Performing, JOL Small Plus, Paul Harris slim Mullica and also a Jaks wallet as I have a nice little routine with it but not practical for edc. |

My everyday wallet is the JOL hip wallet, I'm on my second one now. It has plenty of room for credit cards and cash and has the added bonus of always being ready to go.
When I'm out working I use a JOL EZ wallet the most but also carry an Orphic Plus with me as I love the switch function. I had high hopes for the re-released Hip Pocket Mullica but it's just huge. |

I have been using a Steel Moneyclip Peek Wallet for well over a year, but that has just been replaced with The Greek Peek Wallet.

While I have a lot of wallets,(yes, I know it is a sickness-lol) The wallet that
I use in all my trade show work is a Kaps/Balducci wallet. I have actually worn one out in over 30 years of constant use. I feel that the removal of a wallet, flipping it open and allowing a spectator to unzip and to remove their signed freely selected card is one of the strongest things that a magician can do. Just my 10 cents for whatever it is worth. Marty |

My EDC wallet is a bifold wallet from Stockyard X. It's a very basic wallet made of full-grain leather—quite rustic and has a lifetime guarantee. I carry packet tricks in origami wallets, vinyl badge holders, and vinyl packet trick wallets.
For close-up, I carry a JOL Basic since the fit, finish, and quality are impeccable. For stand-up work, I carry a JOL EZ. It's nice looking and soft, but not quite the quality of the Basic. |

It took me a long time, and several missteps, to find a wallet I was comfortable with.
My current wallet is the Modern Z Wallet Pro 2.0 by Patrick Kun, and I couldn't be happier. I was primarily looking for a switching wallet, though open to other features. I wanted a wallet in a size I would actually carry. I love the functionality of my Himber Wallet, but I carry a smaller front-pocket wallet, and previously carried a bifold. Especially people who know me would be suspicious of a large wallet. But I also needed a wallet that would hold standard playing cards. The Modern Z Wallet is attractive, is locking, is big enough to hold playing cards, but not too big. It also has Out to Lunch support. There is no specific support for peeks or card to wallet loads, but the design of the wallet does allow some techniques for achieving those effects. At some point, I will probably supplement this wallet with a minimal Himber, since I do like the shared space.

I have never carried a wallet as an everyday carry. For the past 50 plus years I have a carried cash and one credit card and a driver's license in a money clip designed to hold two or three cards plus folding cash. Before that I carried my cash folded between one card and the license held all held together with a rubber band or hair tie.
However my working wallet has changed over the years according to venues and needs. Lately I've started carrying the Grum BABU Wallet Pro Premium. It is a minimalist style wallet that works as a signed card to envelope or to ID case in zippered compartment and/or borrowed ring to nest of wallets/envelope. I don't need a peek function in my wallet. I do carry Mark Jenest's "Magic Card" prop and a credit card to bill in the wallet (amongst other things). Let me say the BABU Wallet is a nice small size and the more I use it the more I am inclined to believe that I could be bothered to use it as my every day carry and get rid of the money clip.

Credit card to bill is an excellent visual effect. Do you use the one that comes with it or customize your own?

Customized my own using an expired card. I also carry a bill transposition either George Hample's wonderful "Beswitched" (sold to me in '79 by Al Cohen)or Al Cohen's "Five will get your Ten.
the "check to bill" (Doug Malloy bit). There are a number of items I'll rotate in and out of the working wallet depending on venue and potential audience. I've used Broken and restored Credit card (David Regal), the "Check to Bill" (a Doug Malloy bit), and sometimes the old "Multiplying Credit Cards", etc.

The Redford / Tony Miller EDC Real Mans wallet. The SUC feature is really, really nice. I can reach into my small pants pocket with a palmed card and pull out the wallet with the card underneath and, in the open, pull their card from between bills inside the wallet, without tension. The wallet is big enough that there is room to earlier drop a prediction between the bills and their card apparently comes out from between those same bills.
The SUC does lots of other things of course, like peaks and confabulation. also the wallet has a load to the ID pocket similar to the Draun real mans wallet. I think the wallet looks good, although it not for everyone. It does not have a new, shiny, gimmicky look and just looks like a normal, everyday wallet to me. The material has small natural imperfections, which I like, and it is waterproof. Even my girlfriend even liked the cork material enough that she picked up a non-magic cork wallet for her purse. It is surprisingly tough. Must be the lining, but it feels way, way tougher than I expected and has not scuffed at all. I am not a pro so this is my only wallet. |

By the way, I've been prototyping a DIY wallet design, though the project has been slowed down by other distractions. Tomorrow might be a good day to revisit it.

Admittedly the the Redford/Miller EDC is not a specialized switcher like a himber or Modern Z, but SUC worked for switching, especially combined with the deep cash pocket to ditch the card/paper. While the wallet has a deep and wide cash pocket, the wallet itself can be thin in the pocket. If you take the plunge and try, when following Redford's tip about gluing a dollar bill to the inside, I found Zig glue on the dollar stuck cleaner to the cork material than rubber cement/ tape. Again, I really, really like this material as its matte and the imperfections make it looks well loved out of the box. Also, Redford has a second, sleight of hand switch in the video that is more open and quick. |

I have one (or two) of that particular wallet. Unless I'm mistaken (and I'm not going to search for the wallets I own) it is a Himber style wallet I made by Roy Roth (R.A.R. Magic).
If I find the box of wallets from my distance past I'll double check.
