Anyone have direct experience with the Babu Wallet Minimalist? Not much review info out there.

A review for the BABU Professional series is basically a review for the Minimalist. They are essentially the same wallet in terms of operation. The minimalistic version is a bit shorter, and narrower than its bigger brother. It loads the same way using the same methodology. It is a good signed card to wallet prop (or ring to wallet). Both allow for (and were built for) the BABU pouches to be loaded while inside the wallet.
The Minimalistic version holds fewer cards. The main feature that the BABU wallets have over other Card to Wallet props is they can incorporate the BABU nest of wallets for a borrowed ring or a "Mercury" folded card to nest of wallets. Both are well made props. I think it is a matter of taste as to which you would prefer. Which fits your style/look better. I prefer the slightly larger "Professional" version (in Burgundy) over the Minimalistic fora couple of simple reasons. First the card placed into the wallet (into an envelope or I.D. Case) comes out of the zip compartment just a bit easier. AND second it carries a few more cards. having more room in the wallet is important because on one side of the wallet I carry a credit card, bank card, and driving license while on the other I carry a couple gimmicked/gaffed credit cards, The Mark Jenest's "MagiCard" David Regal's" Broken and Restored Credit Card", and others. There are dozens of minimalistic Card to Wallet props some loaded with multiple features (palm and no-palm card to wallet, peek(s) etc). For example a very good Card to Wallet prop is the "Everyday Wallet" by Mark Traversoni. It is as small as the BABU minimalistic wallet and costs about $50.00. What you lose is being able to use the nest of wallets feature. But for $50.00 simply use the card to envelope feature. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwLupSWD5Bw

@Harry Murphy, it’s interesting that you mention the Everyday Wallet because I own one. My understanding is they load similarly.

Yep, all three load the same. They all load the same as the old Supreme "Super Zipper Wallet" (for you old tiers out there who remember that nice prop. zi could probably name 8 or 10 wallets that use the same loading methodology. Simple and effective.
Right now I Use the BABU-Professional as my working wallet especially for table hoping and walk around venues. A friend has the Everyday Wallet and I have played with it and like it (especially the price). If I didn't already have the BABU-Wallet already I'd probably get one for my own use. Only minor downside is I don't really like black wallets. I wear dark sports coats and shirts so there is little to no contrast when I pull out the wallet. It becomes difficult to see in low light against the dark background a la' Black Art. But that's a small issue.

Since I own the Everyday Wallet, and it's functionally similar to the Babu Wallet for card-to-wallet, I think I may look into a JOL Plus Small since it offers alternative loads, and costs half of the Babu Wallet (albeit without the nice Babu add-ons). |

Hi there I have a wallet addiction and over the years I have bought so many but I have to say the Babu Pro is the best wallet I have ever owned. It’s so flexible I use it without the sleeve and without the pouch as my everyday carry.
The cost might be considered to be high by some but the quality is first class and this will last years. When out gigging I use with ring pouch for a signed coin routine, and Bonsall envelopes. It’s a workers dream. My advice is invest in quality you won’t regret it ! |

The only thing I don't like about the Babu wallet is that I can only have it set up for one effect ie card to wallet or ring to wallet unless I want to do a folded card to wallet.
where as with a JOL Plus wallet I can do a card to wallet and a ring to wallet without having to sacrifice one for the other, infact I could even do both in the same set if I wanted too. That's not to say the Babu isn't a good wallet as it's a great wallet but the JOL offers more versatility making it more practical when I'm at gigs. |
