Hello, it's Calix, the creator of Fragrance, SIGABA, and other magical effects.

I'm excited to introduce you to Foldunum, a foldable chalkboard specifically designed for magicians and mentalists performing in parlor or stage settings. Foldunum was born out of the need for a practical, foldable chalkboard that is easy to transport while offering optimal visibility.

Image

Why is Foldunum unique?

[]Foldable design:[/b] Folds into four parts for easy transport. This board fits easily into most magician's suitcases.
[]Handcrafted design: Each Foldunum is artisanally made with great care. This is not a mass-produced product but a unique, hand-crafted piece.
[]Optimal visibility: Unlike whiteboards, the Foldunum chalkboard offers perfect contrast without reflecting stage lights.
[]SIGABA compatible: Designed to work seamlessly with the SIGABA mentalism app, Foldunum is the ideal tool for your reveals.
  • Versatility: Perfect for close-up, parlor, or stage performances.

My vision:
I personally handcraft each Foldunum, making every board unique. However, due to growing demand and my desire to focus on other projects, I am not looking to produce any more boards myself. My goal is to find manufacturing partners who share my passion and are interested in continuing the production of Foldunum while preserving its artisanal quality.

If you're interested in this project or know of individuals or companies who may be, please feel free to reach out to me. I am confident that Foldunum has great potential, and I’m looking for partners who would like to join me in this adventure.

Thank you all for your attention, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions!

Probably not the place for the thread. I bet the mods move it. Might get better viewing in the places people are looking for this.

Really? I never knew there such a "need." Haven't seen or used a blackboard in years as there are much more modern (and today's more normal looking choices available.) I agree, probably not the right place for this. Best of luck!

A portable big chalk board is perfect for my Little House on the Prairie traveling show. Why not make it a dry erase board? Nobody knows what a chalk board is any more.

Most audiences I perform for these days are 800-1500+ theaters and I do not need or would ever use a chalkboard, sorry. If I did I would use a large one on wheels like teachers may have used in a classroom. Outside of the school market and maybe a sports team locker room (but even these are very outdated with more recent technology, as a chalkboard seems suspiciously out of place, at least here in the states.

With white board and Smartboards technology this would seem more normal, practical and less less suspicious.

Ok, I think I have too explain why a black board instead of a dry erase one.

I began to make a dry erase board that I can fold and put in my magic bag. But, I prefer black board cause it doesn't reflect light, the contrast is better, easier to read white on black than black on white and chalk lines are bigger than than dry erase marker. That's why.

Since I began to use black board, I gain visibility.

To answer, it's not suspicious cause it's just a support to write, doesn't do magic Smile

is the "chalkboard" the good translation? Oh this?

You do know that dry erase boards can be black right? You do know you can buy thicker markers to write with right?

Yes "chalkboard" is exactly what those are and exactly the problem. It is suspicious precisely because nobody uses them any more. Giant corporate meetings don't use chalkboards, they use dry erase boards or smart boards. They deal with lighting issues, issues of visibility and all the things you think are an issue. College campuses use them. Grammar schools use them. In America I believe the only folks who may not be using them are the Amish. Maybe Civil War reenactors.

By the way some time in the US black chalkboards were replaced with a green porcelain enamel board. In the 1990's some time the dry erase board became the norm. Yes there are pockets of chalkboards left in places but in general the HUGE percentage of children from about 1990 on have learned on white boards. They have no real idea what a chalkboard is. Businesses almost certainly would not use them.

I get and don't get why magicians and mentalists insist on clinging to chalkboards as somehow relatable and not suspicious in any way. It is getting to the point where "found in Grandma's closet" is a tough sell! But the last time a Centavo was used in Mexico was 1973. Seriously. Some magicians are STILL referring to them as if they are some sort of current currency. Magicians are indeed slow to change.

So indeed chalkboard is the correct translation. It just might not be the right medium to make these out of.

Hello Danny. Thank you for your message. Yes I know.
It's just a cup of tea. I prefer to be seen, that's why I prefer white chalk and black board.

Don't take it for you, I propose this idea cause I can fold it and put it in my TCC close-up Hand bag. That's it. I don't say you have to use this but there's some advantage.

I have some friends that wrote with chalk pen on black card in close-up situation.

No problem if you like dry erase board. No problem at all.

You can see black on white just as well as white on black. The contrast is identical.

If you’re trying to sell them, which clearly you are, it is just something to consider. Because someone is going to step in and fill that void.

Yes I sell them. And don't want to make it again, because take too much of my time.

A I tried the white board pen on white. I build some. But... After I tried them, it's more visual to have a black board, really.

Just my opinion.Smile
