I have small hands and fingers...will that hamper me with the finger-flinging stuff? I've been working on RRTCM and some of the "poses" for my hands seem stiff, unnatrual, or unworkable. For example, I can do a Charlier cut (have done it for years) but I feel like the deck is too big for my hands when I do it.

Will this hamper me? Will I be unable to do a lot of sleights with a standard Bicycle size deck? Are you guys all "big handed" people?

I played guitar, and it was a factor there as well.

I have small hands but I was able to learn anything I was interested in. You learn to adjust and have natural movement when movement is needed.

It's not the size of the hands but the natural and soft touch with the cards that helps present a 'nothing happening' condition.

Listen to Jimmy! That's not a Jumbo deck he's holding.

Hey Jim!

Don't feel bad, I have small hands as well and used to wonder the same thing. Sometimes you have to work at something a little bit more to get it comfortable or to get used to it, but I haven't run across anything yet that I couldn't work out. Usually the awkwardness from the hand is more from trying something new than the actual hand size. If you want, you can try using bridge sized cards instead of poker sized but ususally magicians try to use poker size.

Jerry Andrus always uses bridge-size cards. His hands aren't small, but he prefers the smaller cards because it makes his moves more natural for him.

I think that hand size is just a hurdle that you will have to get over, but I don't think you should look at it as somehting that will completely keep you from accomplishing almost anything. The other night, I watched a guy, with rather avereage sized hads, performs absolutely beautiful back-palm productions with a jumbo deck! Perhaps that's how you feel with a regular deck, I don't know. But the point is, if he can do it, so can you! Hang in there!

Read "Malini and his Magic." That guy was AWESOME and had hands so small that when he palmed a card, half of it stuck out beyond his wrist.

I too have tiny hands. I have to use a child-size TT. That ackwardness you feel when learning new card sleights, however, isn't due to the size of your hands at all. It's simply because doing new stuff always feels weird. Nearly everybody has to alter moves and experiment to find what works for them, but more than hand size is a factor. It's just that everybody is built differently.

I have a magician friend who actually had trouble because his hands were so BIG. The traditional method for a number of sleights were ackward for him because they left his hands looking and feeling cramped. He too had to experiment and alter sleights until he found what worked for him.

Hang in there, you'll be fine.
