And the routine is already explained on YouTube.

Which only reinforces the magnificent skill of Maccagno.

Maccagno is selling his routine including box, coins and gimmick(s).
A friend offered me his copy for sale yesterday, bought from Maccagno himself at Blackpool for £150, which supposedly includes a 1hr Zoom lesson with the creator.

Being a hobbyist, I found the price a bit steep and declined the offer.

I was very interested in purchasing the box and routine, however, the cost of the box plus shipping from Argentina is $170. So, I purchased Space Box 2.0, which is basically the same box. I then made my own gimmick from some old coins and I’m now having a lot of fun doing the routine. It’s a real fooler.

I bought Space Box 2.0 on Amazon from the "Oliver Magic" company for $28; it appears to be the same coin box sold by China Magic. Other companies are selling the same type of box, but they may be knock-offs -- in fact, a company called "Blue-ther Magic" (perhaps itself a knockoff of the real "Bluether Magic" firm) is selling them, too.

I’m not sure how long this effect has been around or if Space Box 2.0 had other variations that preceded it. But Space Box 2.0 uses an interesting combination of several well-known ruses to very good effect – it’s a Boston Box, a Squared Circle, a Chinatown Half and more. In my opinion, the coin box and its related gimmick are at least "Johnson Products" quality if not slightly better, and an excellent deal for the price. The brass coin box is neatly and precisely machined; it has a fairly decent weight to it, considering it essentially has no bottom. A black felt carrying pouch is included, which will come in handy during the routine for magis who don’t have a black close-up mat. You'll need to do a little extra something to complete the coin gimmick, but it's nothing complicated and can probably be done in about 10 minutes. Also supplied are some replacements for this portion of the gimmick, which was a nice touch. The video tutorial is available on a private YouTube channel and is also well done – except that the audio is in Chinese! Fortunately, there are English subtitles that help out, and the video itself is clear and easy to follow.

I had to smile after opening the package and watching the tutorial. This trick is sold in the “Toys & Games” section of Amazon, but it’s definitely not a toy. Mastering this effect will require plenty of time, patience and skill (although nothing more complicated than a FP is needed), since the box (basically a Boston Box on steroids) and the gimmick do much of the work for you.

BTW, I'm not criticizing Hernan's box or his price. His box is made of bronze, not brass, and may be different from the Space Box 2.0; ditto for his routine and instruction, which may include some of his own subtle touches. And since I have Amazon Prime, there were no shipping fees, unlike the $70 Hernan charges for shipment from Argentina. So it may well be a situation of "apples and oranges," and not a fair comparison. But I will say the Space Box 2.0 is a very good value and a great effect; it's also likely to fool plenty of magicians in addition to Penn & Teller. SETH

I doubt that the routine supplied with Space Box 2.0 would have fooled Penn and Teller. The gimmicked coin that Hernan uses is different and used in a completely different way, though his box is virtually the same.

Maybe it would have fooled them and maybe not, but thanks for pointing that out. SETH

Shipment to germany is 145$. Not even FedEx Express would be that much (for such a small item!).
Mr. Maccagno should check his shop system.

Just noticed that Hernan's coin box is now available from Penguin Magic as the "Quimera Box."

The set includes the coin box, a gaffed coin, four ungimmicked half dollars and an English/Spanish tutorial (probably online). The gaffed coin is from Tango, it's not clear who manufactures the coin boxes. The price is $72 (plus $5 shipping if your total order is less than $100).

In 2003, I introduced at the FFFF a pill box (with three tic tac in it), that had a fixed hinged lid and a cameo stuck on the lid. The box could be operated like a Boston box.I entrusted it to a very good Canadian magician who wanted to have it produced industrially... but he died from cancer before the work was completed and the original box was lost. However, by now its design could be altered to adapt some of the concepts of Bob Swadling's box. I realize that it could achieve, without the "black" coin, the same type of very clean effects (and more) as the Hernan Maccagno routine. I'll have a new one made by a jeweller and propose it to JB Magic and/or TCC as it doesn't look like a "coin box" (that doesn't exist in real life) but as a genuine pill box with a small lock. Perhaps some of the coin routines could also be adapted to (plastic colored) capsules for new effects (like for example the John Ramsay one). I also played with a 125 grams Petrossian caviar box that offers the same possibilities as an Okito box...
Let's think "out of the box" (pun intended)

I am happy that I waited as you can buy this now everywhere.
The set itself is very good but the tutorial with around 13 minutes was too short and underwhelming.
I’ve expected a structured tutorial (on what you get, how to prepare it, which surfaces are suitable, different camera angles, repetitions for moves and hints etc.)
There is also no download option available.
It’s a very quick explanation, one camera angle and english subtitles.
The gimmick is self-explanatory, and as an experienced coin magician, you won't have any problems.
However, the 13 minutes simply felt very forced and inappropriate for the price of the product.

Anyways, the routines are strong and iam looking forward to perform it!

Also inspiring that he started later in life. Nice reminder that it's not too late if you didn't find some book or learn to network in kindergarten like some other greats.

I bought it right away. I RARELY get excited over coin magic, but this routine was so powerful and punched such emotional chords that I gave in immediately.

I have been hardcore practicing it for the past couple months. Technically, the routine is not that difficult. You don't have to be David Roth to master it, but it will require lots of practice to do it smoothly. I doubt I will ever reach Hernan's level of proficiency, but that's just fine.
