BUT...I'm sure many of you card guys can help me with this...I do mostly coin work and a few good self workers but I digress...I've seen a bunch of card effects lately where a prediction or a gimmicked card is kept inside the cellophane of primarily a Bicycle deck....What is the best way to open a deck of bicycles while keeping the cellophane in tact...i noticed not many decks have the "zip strip" anymore for ease of opening...

I have found that most cards do have the 'pull tab' that is (ahem) supposed to facilitate creating a separation between the top and bottom portion of the cellophane.

Basically, one needs to get used to identifying which side of the box has the place where the pull tab that mostly doesn't really exist Smile is. Most of the time there is no functional way...but some decks make it easy. When I have a deck that has nothing I can do with my fingers, I take an exacto knife and cut around the strip where I see it on one edge of the box, to enable me to lift up and get a grip on the strip and pull it.

It is easier in the doing than in the telling, but once you get it, you'll be fine.

It is possible to find the cellophane wrap used for decks on the open market.

You need to use a heating device to get the cellophane sealed around the deck. There used to be one commercially available but it seems to have "disappeared" from the market.

I have one of these that I purchased long ago. It works but it is not as easy as it should be. The temperature of the device is just barely adequate and I find that I have to hold the deck on it for a very long time to get a good enough seal.

You can actually use hair straighteners though they may be less ergonomic for the process. Hot plates or similar devices may work but you will need to experiment to find out which settings work for you.

If you don't mind foregoing the tear strip, you can find small shrink wrap bags that can work also but you need some way to seal the open edge of the bag after you insert your deck. Perhaps a hair curling iron would work for that but I haven't tried one. I actually have a shrink wrap sealer. If you have a hair dryer or heat gun this can work if you get the open edge sealed.

I do the same as Chessman. I can usually find the small tab of cellophane by scratching with my fingernail. If that doesn't work, I'll use a small knife. If I can't get it to pull clean, I'll just give up and tear it off, and move on to another deck.

I've considered experimenting with resealing decks as DelMagic suggested, but I haven't gotten to that yet.
