Hi folks,

I came across a performance (not by Mike Gallo) of Gallo's version of Gadabout Coins: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRwb3AtuuMQ . The trick begins with three coins being taken from a purse, and then the magi removing his wedding ring and putting it in his pocket. The usual Gadabout stuff ensues, and then, at the end, when normally the hands are seen to be empty, they contain no coins, but they do contain the wedding ring. And the coins are back in the purse. If I may say so, Wow!

Questions:

1. Does anyone know whether this is the version that Gallo performs and explains in "Gallo - Live at the Magic Castle (Instant Download)" ( https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/6922 )? Or perhaps this version is available elsewhere? (It's based on some things in Bobo, but the Penguin description is pretty vague about which things.)

2. Is the routine "easy" as the Penguin description says? "Easy" is relative, of course, but if the sleights are basic, e. g., finger or classic palm, bobo switch, false transfer, then I shoud be okay.

3. Does the trick use gaff coins?

Thanks for your help!

That’s member, Bill Citino performing it. You might reach out to him here via PM or Im sure he will see this and respond. Incidentally, he did a real good job with it, in memory of Mike. I love this old trick, and just did it the other day for my grandson and he asked me to do it for the receptionist while at Jui Jitsu practice. Needless to say, they were quite amazed at my own little take on it I call, Pa’s 3 Coin Trick. Smile

What I’ve always liked most about it is that it’s so flexible to perform it as you like. It’s still one of the very best coin tricks ever devised, IMHO. Smile

The answer to question #1 is yes.

The routine utilizes standard sleights required for Gadabout coins.

I do a routine that introduces four coins from the purse (which remains on the table) for Chink-a-Chink, then into Roth’s Shell Coins Across, then finishing with Gadabout Coins with the coins arriving back inside the purse at the end. My version does not involve a ring (because I don’t wear rings).

I own the DVD.

Out of interest, GJo, if you start with four coins, how do you segue to Gadabout which (apparently) only uses three?

I openly put it a pocket as part of a story through line that runs through all three effects.

OK, thanks I guess your story sells it. I've always felt uneasy about Gadabout when they've already seen four coins.

Yes, he does and it’s a mighty fine version of the old trick. A couple of nice hooks to it, along with a great story line if you're into delivering magic by patter…Just wonderful! His is one of the few versions I took into account in coming up with my own take on it, “Pa’s Famous 3 Coin Trick” in my download, Gifts From The Old Country. Smile

What they all think about the trick I completely agree with and have always thought and said just about those same things. It’s a winner, always has been to me. And Mike’s creative version has always helped keep its classic way alive & ever amazing. Smile
