I have a few I'm looking at. I'm curious if anyone has experience with Scott Guinn's routine at Lybrary.

Or the TCC one.

The only other ones I've had experience with were Aldo's. They were okay, but I'm looking to expand my knowledge.

One's I'm considering:

TCC
Scott's
Alien Ring by Glenn Morphew
Eric DeCamps
Murphy's set that includes the WGM video with a ring and rope

Any opinions?

Thanks!

I have several routines that combine R&R with linking rings in new ways. "Ends Myth" allows that rope loops and solid rings are the same except for knowing where the ends are.

The R&R effects could stand alone or be combined with other routines

I just got the Murphy's set. The rope is some of the best I've ever had. The ring that's included
is very nice as well. The teaching is good from Aldo Columbini, Eric DeCamps and others.
This is a very good set for the money.

Another great resource is The Award-Winning Rope Magic of Francis Tabaray.
He has a whole chapter dedicated to the ring & rope. He also has a 2 DVD set available as well.

However, one of my favorites is the close-up ring & rope routine from El Duco & Willi Wessel.

Best of Luck

Thanks for the input Mark! I used to have the Aldo routines in booklet form, maybe the video will help me improve.

I've been looking for the Wessel one and can't seem to find it anywhere.

I believe you can still get the Wessel routine directly from El Duco.
However, it's only as a download. I used to have it many years ago on VHS.

I've been searching for it on DVD to no avail!

Thanks, I'll look into that.

... Looked into it. They have been bought out by a magic company called Metal Writing. All the El Duco products should eventually be available there, but as of now the only El Duco product listed is a reel.

I'll keep an eye out!

Not sure if this helps or not but, Greg Wilson’s Ring Leader is gold as far as I’m concerned. <thumbsup>

In his Live Penguin Lecture, David Williamson shows his Ring & Rope Routine. Hilarious and highly practical.

For now I purchased the Murphy's set. I also found a ring and rope excerpt of Tabary on Trick Supply as a download for 5 dollars.
After these, if I keep exploring this plot, I'm looking at Scott Guinn's routine from Lybrary, the book by Philip Willmarth and the TCC set.
Thank you for all the suggestions.

Have you looked at Daryl's Ring and Rope routine?

The are 7 routines included on the Murphy's set. It's actually an old World's Greatest Magic video that comes with it. Or rather, it appears its going to come with a link to a download. One of the routines is by Daryl. I'm very much looking forward to the variety included on the video and Daryl is a great teacher.
Also included is a routine by Eric Decamps, both his and Daryl's are geared toward walk around, which is what I'm looking for. That said, you can basically take any ring moves from any routines and build your own and that's what I'll be doing. I like some of Aldo's moves so we'll see when it gets here what I'll be keeping.
Just as an aside, I listened to the "buy books" advice for years, and it's great advice, but I kind of neglected buying videos to a certain extent and I must say, I've been on a real tear of purchasing video downloads lately and it's so much easier for me to learn this way. I'm going back and revisiting many routines I've done for years and I'm learning so many nuances and handlings that are making my performances better. I can't wait to see what doors of improvement these videos open.

I didn't get the Tabary yet. I might not, at least for a while. I'm really loving this video. I spent several hours going over it and coming up with a full, fun routine. I've combined some of Daryl and Eric Decamps' routines with some of Aldo's and really am super please with the result. I think this will be going into my repertoire.
I may sound like a gushing nerd, but I'm truly excited. In the past I've really struggled to get what I thought was a coherent, magical looking routine and after years I finally feel like I have one.
Thanks again for the suggestions.

Okay so I did not like the ring or the rope that came with the Murphy set. I think the rope is too thick and the ring that I received is of poor quality. I'll try and attach photos below. I'll try and include some links as well, to the products that I did buy, that I like much better. I got new rings, different rope and I learned how to add whipping to the ends of the rope which I think makes it look much more professional, rather than burning the ends, taping them, or tucking them. So here goes... I'll try and share my links and photos below.
I really like this new set. The rope passes through the rings much more smoothly and I'm not hesitant to hand this ring out to anyone for examination because they're not damaged.

Okay... I give up. I just spent an hour trying to load photos from my device, google photos and imgur. Nothing worked. I quit.

Here are links to all the stuff

And here's a link to how to whip, there are other videos on YouTube as well.

Quick follow up: after performing this for several people, the routine kills.

I tried doing ring and rope years ago and always got lackluster reactions. I gave it up.

It was very worthwhile to reinvest the time, money and effort to create my own routine. And to find the "just right" props. The ring and rope I got from Amazon are excellent.

The reactions in the past were usually something like, "Oh you're just doing special knots or something."

Now, people's eyes bug out.

I structured my routine with 5 phases. The magic "self tying" knot followed by a link, an unlink, a link and a final unlink. I wanted to never have to simply take the ring off the rope to get ready for a link. My way of looking at it was, if it's magic, then every time the ring goes on or off the rope should be a magical moment. I achieved that with this routine.

There is also a little story thrown in about my uncle who owned horses and knew some magical ways to get a harness ring on and off a rope.

Very satisfying to see the final result in the reactions of the spectators after years of wanting to do this.

Levi - thanks for the heads up on Murphy product, have you seen the TCC ring (6"), I find a bit large, nice size for parlor. What diameter do you prefer? I have been using 4" ring, just ordered 4.5" (thank you for link) and performing modified DeCamps routine, he's a friend from our day job and biased Smile. Recently, I started playing with a ring & string routine (Greg Wilson & Nick Einhorn), reviewed most of the ring & rope routines listed fortunately in library (nothing resonated). While viewing my magic folders, I found a gem which may be on the Murphy video. The routine is STILL RINGING, by Aldo, small booklet purchased at his live lecture in NYC 2008ish. Check it out, you will most likely pick up a move or two.

I'm kinda late on this,
I couldn't find my left sock..
But now,.. : )

Back to the 'original question',..
'Scott Guinn's Ring and Rope Routine'....?

BRILLIANT.

...i hope I'm not minimalizing things here.

Scott Guinn teaches, explains his thoughts,..and amazes YOU(!),...in this book!

It's not 'easy-peasy',...on-off, on-off...
It's extremely Magical.
Not at all 'confusing'.
Slow,..visual,...very amazing.

Very well conceived.

I highly recommend THIS.
gallagher

p.s.: I enjoyed it SO much(!), I purchased TWO MORE books, of his thought.
'My Best To You: Coins'. (Really good stuff!)

And,...'Symphony for Ring & String'.

Seems every magician wants to copy other magicians rope routines. Start using your creativeness and make up your own routine.
All the clever maves to cut the rope doesn't sells entertainment to your audiance, they don't see that, it's the presentation which is the most important.
Cutting and restoring a piece of rope for children doesn't entertain the children, rather it's what you do with the rope before and after the cutting that is really important, that is what they remembers.
