i think your comparison is ridiculous unless that's how you peek billets. IMO a billet peek should be structured in a far more deceptive way with a logical disconnect. A good example would be name/place. There is a disconnect and no straight line to the method. Where is the logical disconnect with this? The nature of the medium being their phone, doesn't allow for it.

Iris is brilliant. (And way underpriced.)

How did you come to this conclusion? Do you have this?

yes I have it. And this is just my opinion. It's great if everyone else loves it. Not everything is for everybody.

Of course! That's true. I take your point, but I ask because they do a great job in my opinion of justification and providing distance in many (if not all) of the routines.

There's some cool routines for this in The Jerx subscribers newsletter and like everything recommended there I'm not dissapointed, really nice effect, it's true that could stop working with future phone updates as some people said but the thing that it's been working for so long is already a proof that they don't even know that this is a thing lol, makes no sense to me

congrats on the release!

I'll try the google maps effect out on thursday as it seems more impossible and I have a very good motivation for going back to their phone on that one. The price would be worth it for a good impromptu maps effect so maybe I'll change my mind.

My point exactly, bud. It’s all about how you present it. I have a few ideas with it that provide the perfect excuse for why you have to take their phone back. And the logical disconnect there. You’re making a point that is only the case if someone is performing it with absolutely no thought about their performance.

Indeed I would say it is quite the opposite you use the spectators knowledge against them the more they know the more baffled they should be. With the notes version you can ask them to delete what they have written then say as an afterthought almost - go ahead delete the note as well just to make sure. Then as another add on you say oh yes go ahead and remove it from the recently deleted as well. No one can think you can get anything from that. Same with the google maps version they are scrolling away from their destination they haven’t typed anything in how can you be getting anything from that?

The using their phone part is totally justified they have some great ideas for using the notes app for the revelation. Or you take their phone to try and refind their destination on the map. It all makes sense.

You don't think there's any chance they might be thinking 'he took my phone and looked at it... he must know a way to retrieve the information?'

Bob in his ebook regarding The Logical Disconnect talks about making the actual method used appear to be impossible I was just giving examples of how that is the case, like in his example with White Dwarf, here in Iris you make it impossible for them to feel like you could peek the information. You could also certainly add some of Bob's thinking from Name/Place on the Delayed Peek here as well, that might work nicely with the Google Maps idea, I will try that! I think we run the risk of this with any peek, I have done just standard billet peeks and spectators have said 'you must have just looked at it' it doesn't happen often and maybe it was my handling or something I was doing wrong, but maybe it is just a straight line conclusion, that would be the logical explanation and that is in essence the method isn't it, we just look at stuff when the spectators think we haven't! It is how we cover that and routine it to try and hide it as best we can.

I can say I have been using this method on and off for 10 years since it was first published and no one has ever pulled me up on it, not to say they weren't thinking that I somehow must have peeked, but your mileage may vary, try the Google Maps routine and see how you get on, you have definitely made me revisit Bob's thinking and how I can incorporate this here!

if you've been doing it successfully for 10 years then I'll work something out and give it a try. I used to use John archers streets app many years ago for a travel effect and I could almost do the same thing impromptu with this method. That's gotta be worth a try. Cheers anyway for the thoughtful reply

It’s a paid subscription model. With any luck, he may publish more on the subject. He does like DFB a lot, and will post stuff that relates to it from time to time. I suspect Iris won’t be any different.

I think the other thing you should know is the peek is an incredibly minor moment, if you want it to be, you can literally handle the phone for like 3 seconds. Plus, you don't take the phone back until the spectator is 100% comfortable that the information is irretrievably deleted. They don't make the link that you're going for a peek, because in their minds, there's literally nothing to peek and you're taking their phone to genuinely use their Google Maps app, notes app, whatever. Plus, they cannot backtrack the process whatsoever; you can show them their phone the whole time, other than the 3 seconds you need.

They don't find it suspicious and even if they do, they literally have no proof of you getting any info from anything and they'll never figure out how you did. So it's still fooling. Genuinely, though, if you handle it correctly, I've never had a spectator believe it was anything less than mind-reading. Throw in a couple of mentalist stunts like guessing their letter or making associations and you're going to get even better reactions.

Thanks so much! Yeah, it was really fun to see The Jerx play around with the effect and create such awesome variations, I'm sure there are many more to come from other creators and ourselves!

As far as we know, it's an intended feature and shouldn't be changing anytime soon, fingers crossed!

I’ve changed my mind on this. The google maps approach is an impromptu miracle and it’s worth the asking price for that alone!

Good to hear it is working for you, I think the maps approach is fantastic gives you a reason to take the phone back to look for the place, and they have scrolled away and zoomed out so how could you possibly know?!

And as you say I think the impromptu nature of it shouldn't be overlooked, nothing to setup on their phone no need to handle it until they are convinced you couldn't get any info anyway.

I do use the notes approach, and occasionally the photos, but I am a bit more sensitive around using peoples photos, so I definitely make sure they are ok with me looking through their photos, same with browser stuff.

Another approach I use it for is an impromptu PIN divination, have them open the calculator and come up with a PIN code, could be a memorable date for them, or some other 4-digit code, I don't want to use their actual PIN as that always makes me uncomfortable! But gives me the excuse to use the calculator for them to type the PIN in to show around and do the necessary.

Then I ask them to delete what they have typed, check the history to make sure it isn't in there, and then do some other calculations, I then supposedly use these other calculations to try and divine their PIN, saying they have subconciosusly entered these numbers which will lead back to their imaginary new PIN code.

Again the fact they can delete the PIN, and check the history in the calculator just reinforces to them that I can't possibly be getting anything! So strong and so impromptu!

I just wrote my thoughts up on this, but I can tell you I’m ALREADY using this in routines where I usually use a billet peek. It’s even more casual since it’s with a phone, and with just a little thought, you can easily justify all of the actions.

I also have a discount code in the review if you’ve been thinking about purchasing but need a little incentive.

It works on most phones, but not all. Does it work on, for example, Samsung phones (S21, S22, etc.)? Those are extremely common around me.

Is there also an excuse if you notice their phone is not compatible with the method?

It doesn't work on my S22, so I guess it's not for Galaxy Phones at all.

Got it, love it. Simple concept, easy to execute, powerful peek. I gravitated immediately to the maps presentation as it seems more impossible. Once you know the secret, its easy to use in anything. Nice work!
