What does everybody think of the McClintock twist? I have seen a demo for it a long time ago, but I can't find it any more.
Does anybody know where I can find a demo of it? I know the Asher twist, Guy Hollingworth's Twisting the Aces, and Dai Vernon's Twisting the Aces. Does the McClintock twist hold up to any of these? |

Hey, I believe magicproshop.com has a demo. I may be wrong, but I believe it is very similar to the Asher Twist, almost the Asher twist at eye level. The demo looks great.

I have a copy of the tape. Reed sent it a while ago. The thing is darn spooky to watch as the aces turn face up without any apparent handling. I don't know the history of this genre of trick, so can't comment about the Asher and Hollingworth routines. I can say that this uses no gaffs and could be routined with the Vernon trick.

Actually I came up with this twist, before I knew that it was the McClintock twist. I tried to figure out the Asher twist !! Actually the method is completely different from the Asher twist. The angles are not that bad, but there is a noise issue.

I heard from someone that Reed actually bought up all the video's that he could find because he changed his mind about wanting the video to be out there, and its only availible in limited quantities now....
Just a rumor, but who knows... |

I doubt this rumor is true, Daegs.

I saw it performed by him in lecture (not explained, but a friend of mine succeeded in reconstructing the procedure afterwards). It is effectively clean. I think, anyway, it is more for magicians than for laymen, that maybe would more appreciate something like the good old "twisting the aces" or any other classic routine involving the revolving . It is anyway a good way to drive crazy the fellows of your club

He in fact did make that statement here on the Café, but if you can still get this, don't hesitate....it's lots of fun practicing this one.....

I saw Reed teach this in a lecture at PCAM last year, and watched him perform it over and over again around the convention - even from "bad" angles where I could see the work. - it's very beautiful.

I agree with the overall sentiments expressed above - thought it's quite a nice routine, it's more one for the magi.
Though I did read an excelent suggestion of using double-facers so that rather than the cards turning over, they transform into different cards. I'm sure this would have a greater impact upon laypeople. RandomDan |

I read somewhere recently that Reed had some ideas in mind using the basic approach taught and tipped them on his recent trip to Europe.

I felt changing cards with the twist was weak as lay people might think there were more than four cards or he reversed the cards with double facers. (Even lay people don't know double facers, but they might sense it). Besides, reversing effect is clearer visually, and cards can be handed for examination. Hideo Kato |
