Hi,
Does anyone know where to buy Hang'Em High by Bob Sheets? It's seems to be that its nowhere available since a long time. Was it published anywhere else.

Thanks

Hang'Em High by Bob Sheets was published in Stan Allen's MAGIC magazine in the September 1997 issue.

David gives you the place it was published. I think that Bob Sheets published the written instructions after he stopped making the prop rope and marketing it himself.

He did put out a nice DVD on the trick.

The DVD hasn't been available for some time. You can find it on the secondary market (try eBay and ask here in the DVD and Video Tapes for Sale or Trade section). The prop rope hasn't been made or sold in a little over a decade. The DVD tells you how to make it. You'll need a Tarbell gimmick to make it. Again check the secondary sources for the prop rope (again check eBay, the vintage magic dealers, and ask in the tricks for sale section here on the Cafe').

Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies! How difficult is it to make the gimmicked rope? I assume the rope consists of two parts. Maybe it's easier to use a long chain that can be linked secretly.

Jeff Hobson Actually performed a chain through body called "Great Chain Escape" I think it was developed with Jeff and Magician Michael Holly. Later Jeff made a few and sold them. Postage was a killer on the effect given that it was real steel chain. It has been out of production for about 10 years or longer.

Here's Michael Holly performing it:

Here is Joe Turner performing it:

As to how difficult it is to make Bob Sheets' "hang em High" prop. It depends on if you can find the gaff needed. That is, you need a Tarbell or Deblin (Deblen??) rope gimmick. It screws together.

I could not locate one to link to. I did find an Indian made version sold by Vanishing Inc. I cannot vouch for the quality but suspect that it will work just fine.

The gimmicks are effectively threaded inserts, which are a standard hardware part you can get for pennies. M2 would be nice and small. You might want to glue something onto them to make them a bit longer to go in the rope.

Interesting. I've done the bit about wrapping tape around thin cylinder magnets to make them fit better , so I understand what you mean about that , but I'm not clear on what standard hardware part we should be looking for ...

When you write: "standard hardware part" and "M2" is that referring to a particular part number ? Could you post a link to the part you are referring to ?

One source of a Delbin style gimmick can be found on 'Big Guy's Magic'

The threaded inserts idea Jolyonjenkins suggests can be made to work. They can be found on any large hardware store website using a search for threaded inserts.

Sorry just seen this - M2 is the size of the screw. 2mm nominally. If you search for M2 threaded insert you should find plenty. The outer diameter will be about 4mm or so. Because they are not particularly long, I would glue two of them together. Then for the male part, I'd use a M2 screw and thread it onto another insert with the screw protruding. Then you can glue the insert into the rope

I have worked with making gimmicked ropes quite a bit. You might want to lengthen the gimmick by using
jb weld to glue a strong and well matched chain into the inside of the gimmick on each side. You could then use
E6000 glue to extend the chain further out from the gimmick. This would allow the rope to still appear quite flexible. Just an idea.
