CLAIRVOYANT CARTOMANCY

Clairvoyant Cartomancy is an intuitive three-card reading — past, present, and future — designed to feel like a meaningful demonstration of clairvoyant insight. The chapter describes a process that appears simple and transparent from the audience’s perspective: the participant shuffles and cuts the deck, three cards are placed face down, they secretly look at each one, and the performer delivers a deep reading before correctly revealing all the cards. At the end, the participant receives a handwritten personal message from the performer, further reinforcing the emotional impact.

The text also explains what happens behind the scenes, showing how the routine combines genuine intuitive reading with the technical structure that supports it. Each card is framed through broad, recognisable themes: the past explores patterns and recent transitions; the present focuses on relationships, opportunities, and emotional movement; the future points toward professional evolution and long-term direction. The chapter emphasises that the true value lies in emotional communication and in how the performer shapes the experience, rather than in technical details or rigid systems.

Finally, the author provides an overview of cartomantic symbolism — such as suit meanings, numerical values, and thematic categories — while keeping everything flexible so that each performer can adapt the material to their own style. The chapter concludes with an excellent idea for maintaining contact with sitters after the reading, strengthening the relationship and naturally generating opportunities for future work. I will add this one to my repertoire.

THE SPELL OF TELLS

This routine is the author’s interpretation of Tossed Out Deck, reframed as an experiment in reading poker-style tells. Five spectators receive cards, and the performer appears to determine who holds what through body language, micro-expressions, and subtle behavioral cues. The tone is light, with a brief moment of apparent uncertainty that resolves into a confident reveal, strengthening the impression of genuine perceptiveness rather than trickery. It is particularly effective for analytical or business-oriented audiences—finance, corporate, legal, and insurance groups—because the premise feels grounded, relatable, and rooted in real-world psychology.

Positioned near the start of the show, the routine engages multiple participants at once, establishes an easy rhythm with the audience, and creates an atmosphere of focused attention. It provides a clear entry point for the performance to grow in scale and impossibility, allowing the subsequent material to unfold naturally from something readable and human into demonstrations of increasing impact.

Stuart has performed this piece for nearly twenty years and recalls being deeply impressed the first time he saw Jon Stetson present it. His development of the routine has also been influenced by Ted Lesley, Luke Jermay, Asi Wind, and Lee Earle, whose approaches shaped elements of framing, timing, and conceptual progression. The chapter additionally describes an elegant, versatile deck switch suitable for many other card routines.

“The Spell of Tells” stands as a subtle, skill-based opener—refined over two decades and enriched by the insights of influential performers—making it one of the author’s most dependable and personally meaningful pieces.

RICHARD WEBSTER

Here we’ve a tribute to Richard Webster, one of the most beloved and influential figures in the world of mentalism and psychic entertainment. It highlights his generosity, the humble way he shares his knowledge, and the remarkable breadth of his work—over 160 books. The author describes Webster as someone who blends psychology, spirituality, and entertainment in an elegant and practical manner. A small personal story is included (the gift of the “buzzy bee”), illustrating the kindness and attentiveness that define Webster. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the importance of his legacy for performers who aim to create empathetic, engaging, and personally meaningful experiences.

ASTRO-CARDS

Astro-Cards by Richard Webster, is a routine that blends playing cards, astrology, and symbolic reading. The spectator silently thinks of their zodiac sign, and from a small group of cards the performer delivers a reading based on past, present, and future, using the symbolism of suits and numbers. The interpretation is positive, intimate, and engaging, creating a strong emotional connection.

The routine culminates with the revelation of the spectator’s zodiac sign, presented as a natural outcome of the reading. It is an elegant, clear effect with strong emotional impact, ideal as an introduction to card-based readings.

PIECES OF PAPER

An exploration on the use of billets—one of the most versatile tools in mentalism. The author explains why billets work so well: they are simple, casual, and psychologically invisible. From there, he presents the fundamental methods: the switch, the center tear (including his own version, Nebula), the Acidus Novus peek, and impression pads. For each approach, he details the advantages, limitations, when to use them, how to present them, and how to conceal the moment of the peek. He also describes routines, practical tips, natural handling, misdirection techniques, ways of burning or destroying the paper, and the concept of the delayed read—saving the torn piece for later revelation to create a more dramatic experience. The chapter closes with recommendations on materials, ideal paper size, and how to integrate the technique into the narrative of a performance.

ON THE CENTER TEAR

Stuart introduces Nebula, his personal handling of the center tear, and recounts his background with the technique: he first discovered it as a child through a beginner’s magic book, returned to it in his teens, and refined his understanding while bartending in New York and studying mentalism. His main influences include Osterlind’s Perfected Center Tear, Dr. Bill Cushman, Ted Lesley, and T. A. Waters.

For many years he relied on the delayed read — the method he learned first and the one he still considers the strongest option. Later he explored reading the information during the tear itself, which can be useful, but never truly replaces the dramatic impact of the delayed reading, a point Max Maven also emphasised.

He also notes that tearing paper is not always appropriate, so nondestructive alternatives may be necessary.

ASHES AND FIRE

He recalls an older bar routine from the early 2000s in New York combining a center tear with “ashes on the palm”: the spectator wrote a name on a slip of paper, the author performed the tear, burned the scraps, secretly kept the center, and during a palm reading deposited ashes on his finger — ultimately revealing the written name on the spectator’s palm. It created a powerful emotional impact.

Today he no longer uses fire; the routine has been adapted using Nebula and the modern ashes-on-the-palm method as taught by Bill Abbott, better suited for modern performance settings.

NEBULA C.T.

Here Stuart presents his own version of the center tear: Nebula. The guiding philosophy is maximum simplicity—using business-card–sized paper, folded in a practical way, with minimal handling and a highly controlled peek.

Nebula is distinguished by two core characteristics:

- Adaptable peek: it can be done live (during the routine) or as a delayed read (by discreetly saving the central piece for later revelation).

- Natural justification: the entire tearing process is motivated by emotional narrative—releasing doubts, letting go of the past, focusing energy, and so on.

This section includes step-by-step instructions (how to hold the paper, how to rotate it, how to remove the center, how to execute the peek without looking directly at the paper), but the main focus is on presentation. For the author, Nebula works not because it is technically superior, but because it allows the performer to maintain constant eye contact with the spectator while doing the “dirty work.” Nebula Center Tear is also available here:

https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/8517?srsl......GuHfkbQZ

DELAYED READ

The Delayed Read is a variation in which the revelation of the information written by the participant is postponed to a later moment in the performance. After the paper is torn, the pieces are handled and given back to the spectator, and the performer continues the routine naturally, without revealing anything immediately. Later, during another seemingly innocent action — such as taking out a notepad or making a note — the performer obtains the necessary information. The main idea is to separate the moment of writing from the moment of revelation, making the entire experience cleaner, more relaxed, and more convincing in the eyes of the audience.

NEBULA NUMEROLOGY

Here we have an application of Nebula within a numerological framework. It represents the author’s preferred way to present the center tear, and he openly acknowledges that he hesitated to include it because of how strong it plays—choosing to release it only because it remains “buried” in a substantial volume. The numerological structure provides a newly justified reason for tearing the billet, turning the action from a procedural necessity into a symbolically grounded beat with emotional resonance far beyond technique.

MILLARD LONGMAN — A SHORT BIO

Brief autobiography in which Millard Longman describes a childhood marked by playing cards and palm reading, a career as an engineer responsible for technology used in the lunar mission and in the first automated blood analyzer, his parallel study of readings and healing, and the later impact on mentalism through Acidus Novus, Ultimate Billet, and Acidus Globus. He received a distinction from the PEA in 2017 and defines himself not as a psychic performer, but as a reader and healer, valuing above all family life and spiritual ethics.

ACIDUS NOVUS

Historical overview of Acidus Novus: Millard discovers a solution that removes the need for a billet switch and sends it to Al Mann, who publishes it with full credit. Millard contextualizes its origin, earlier references, and the widespread adoption of the technique, presenting it as one of the simplest and most direct tools in billet work. The next two pages reproduce the first official publication of Acidus Novus (in Acidus Plus).

FROM THE NEW ACIDUS NOVUS - 2005

In these pages, the management and presentation of the 'Acidus Novus' method using billets are addressed:

- Paper type selection: The author emphasizes the need to use billets with specific characteristics regarding opacity and size, ensuring that the information remains undetectable against the light or during handling.

- Psychology and Performance: The central focus is the psychological cover. The obtaining of the secret information is camouflaged by a natural and justified action.

- Audience Management: The text highlights the importance of controlling viewing angles and body language to avoid 'telegraphing' the method. If you like this peek, you can't miss reading these 4 pages. They contain very good tips on the type of paper, restricting where the participant should write, The Pre-Fold, and The Peek Get-Ready. On the other hand, if you're not familiar with Acidus Novus, everything you need to know about this technique is contained in the previous pages and these 4. It will be more than enough information for you to figure out if this is the right peek for you or not.

NAME AND PLACE PLUS

This routine is the author's variation of the Bob Cassidy classic. The performer asks one participant to write a name and a second to write a place, folding the papers. The artist burns one of the papers and then reveals what was written. The text notes that burning paper is a challenge in many modern locations due to security concerns.

NEBULA VARIATION

A variant using the Nebula center tear is described. This solves the problem of not being able to burn the billet.

ANSON CHIEN

Stuart describes Hong Kong as a creatively challenging environment, yet one in which Anson Chen stood out early on as a talented performer. He began in classical magic, grew close to the author through shows and shared ideas, and eventually became the regular opening act of Cabaret of Curiosities, where he performed what the author considers the best needle-swallowing routine he has ever seen. He later moved to Shanghai, founded the Blackstone Magic Bar, and developed a full mentalism show. After developing an interest in hypnosis, he studied with Anthony Jacquin and achieved major success on Chinese social media and in immersive theatre. The author expresses deep admiration for his journey and believes the method presented next will become the future standard for the “Name and Place” routine.

CASSIDY ON ACID

This text presents Anson Chen's handling and routine for the classic mentalism effect Cassidy's Name and Place, which he has dubbed "Cassidy on Acid". The new version's goal is to be faster and suitable for contemporary performance venues, many of which have regulations against the use of fire. An alternative variation is suggested for Participant B: the card can have pre-written content. This allows the participant to record more than just a friend's name (for example, name and date of birth), which can create "extra hits" during the revelation. The text concludes with a suggestion from Stuart for a change in the handling of the routine, to be applied after the moment when the information is acquired.

And we're at page 495.

BRANDON BELL

On page 498, we have a brief introduction of Brandon Bell, a friend whom the author met through Facebook. Stuart, who lives distant from most of his peers and has strong opinions about their work and art , highly values this friendship. He recommends Brandon's video, 'Gnostic Oblique peek,' praising its perspective on the magic communities. He also notes its style, which pays homage to David Lynch and Twin Peaks. Brandon's piece was selected for the book because it is excellent, used by the author, and utilizes the peg system. The author encourages the reader to explore Brandon Bell's ideas.

IN MEMORY OF ANNEMANN

Here is a mentalism effect by Brandon Bell, a version of the "A Real Psychic Card Test" performed without using cards.

The Effect and Versatility

The performer hands out paper and pens for participants to make simple drawings. After a free selection and the mental transmission of a chosen drawing, the performer reproduces the exact drawing under fair test conditions. The method relies on a bold principle that requires some practice and skill, with an emphasis on using the mind. The effect will be easy to understand if the reader is familiar with memory systems (mnemonics). These systems are taught and covered in the earlier chapters of the book. The effect is highly adaptable, and can be used with multiple groups (walk-around) or for several spectators. The performer can work with drawings, names, or places.

ANNEMANN AND PLACE

This routine was developed after Stuart studied Annemann's handling with the fantastic German performer Satori, with the goal of learning contact mind reading. Satori's handling served as the basis for this routine. The performer uses a simplified Annemann switch, which is taught as a useful tool. Stuart emphasizes that the handling must be executed with a small movement, smoothly and naturally, to eliminate the sudden, jerky movement that makes the switch suspicious. This routine allows the performer to obtain more than one piece of information from the participants, such as the name, location, and date of birth (Name and Place and Date).

Preparation and Information Gathering

- Stuart prepares folded papers that can be folded three times, the ideal size for the handling.

- He gives a paper and a small pencil (and not a pen) to a participant, an act justified for filling time and for branding reasons.

- The participant is instructed to write down their date of birth (day, month, year), a location in the world (city, monument, etc.), and the first name of someone important who is not present.

Execution and Revelation

- The performer uses a method based on an idea from Ted Lesley.

- He asks the participant to think of their star sign.

- Next, he reveals things about the person they chose and the topic chosen, focusing on the star sign.

- He reveals the day of the week they were born and lists celebrities who share their sign (such as Mike Tyson, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford and Margot Robbie for Cancer, or Marilyn Monroe and Angelina Jolie for Gemini).

- The routine concludes with him revealing the exact location and date of birth of the participant.

Stuart points out that the routine works well and that when the performance is described to other magicians, the common response is to ask when he got the information (the peeks), without even perceiving the switch.

THE MEDIUM SWITCH

This is a billet switch inspired by the style of classic mediums. The method was created to appear almost invisible, reproducing the casual manipulation used by mediums and spiritualists.

Key Characteristics:

- The paper is collected in a relaxed manner.

- It is switched during a natural gesture (passing it to the other hand, picking up another object, straightening something on the table).

- The spectator never feels that the billet left their field of vision.

- The movement fits organically into the flow of the reading.

It also includes notes on timing and angles, emphasizing that naturalness is always more important than speed.

MULTI-DIMENSIONAL TELEPATHY

Introduction and Information Gathering

This routine is directly inspired by Bob Cassidy's 4th Dimensional Telepathy, which in turn is inspired by Annemann. Stuart states that this is his go-to method for platform performances, but it is also often used for home parties when he doesn't have time for the pre-show. When he does have time, his preferred routine is Core-Telepathy by Jon Stetson. The performer describes a stage setting with four empty chairs around a small central table, with a fifth chair and a briefcase.

The performer selects participants randomly (such as Sophia, John, Joyce, and Lisa), addressing them confidently and humorously. He hands out paper and a small pencil to the participants (instead of a pen, for reasons of personal branding and to avoid suspicion of Bluetooth technology). The participants are instructed to write: Joyce, her date of birth and the name of an important person who is not present; John, his date of birth and something that "turns him on"; and Lisa, a location in the world and a specific time of day. The papers are folded and, in some cases, placed into envelopes which are exchanged or sealed by the participants themselves.

Demonstrations and Final Revelations

The performer carries out several demonstrations of mind reading: with Sophia, he asks her to think of a word of seven or more letters and reveals the word by spelling it out on the blackboard. With Joyce, he reveals the important person as a family member (Mom), focusing on her star sign. The final revelations for John and Lisa demonstrate great accuracy: for John, the performer reveals what turns him on ("Confidence"), based on his star sign (Aquarius), and even calculates the day of the week he was born. For Lisa, he describes her location (sketching the skyline or monument on the blackboard) and the specific time she had in mind, ending the routine with a pocket watch that proves to be set to her chosen time. The routine concludes with a strong ending that proves the performer's control over time and place.

NUTS & BOLTS: Preparation and Philosophy

This section focuses on the preparation, philosophy, and stage management of the routine. Stuart details the stage setup (four chairs and a table) and the organization of materials. He explains the criteria for stage participant selection, such as choosing people who seem "congenial" and who avoid the need for reading glasses. Royalty-free music is used to maintain the smoothness of the show, give a sense of high production, and avoid copyright issues in videos. The justification for the material (small pencils instead of pens) is a form of branding, to fill time, and to avoid the suspicion of using spy technology. Stuart addresses the assumption that participants are stooges (accomplices), pointing out that mentalism is more effective when it is demonstrated that no technology is involved and when belief in the ability is fostered. The dramatic pauses for "concentration" during the information gathering are used to manage the timing of the routine and convert the information mentally.

MULTIVERSAL TELEPATHY

Performance Technique and Philosophy

The details, technique and philosophy behind MULTIVERSAL TELEPATHY, focusing on critical performance decisions and stage management. The contrast in material is intentional: the performer uses either a light brown paper bag (less suspicious) or a bright pink one (part of his branding), noting that the bright pink bag draws attention, which can help disguise manipulation. The chalkboard is made of A3 size material to be light and easy to carry, and the performer brings backup chalk and a damp cloth to erase. The stage configuration includes five chairs, with the fifth being used for his performing bag and other props.

The routine is designed so that the folding and unfolding of papers and the manipulation of the bag occur with an internal monologue and motivation, making the action appear natural. When handling the bag, it is important to practice the routine while holding a hand microphone, as this can affect manipulation. The revelation of a participant's day of birth is a skill that isn't always revealed, but can be used if the spectator challenges the revelation of the year of birth.

Bonus and Variations

A bonus method is presented that eliminates the need to perform the initial switch with the first participant. This method adapts a move used in another routine to retrieve the billet from the bottom of the bag. This new approach allows the billet's revelation to be performed as if the performer is emphasizing what the person wrote, saying: "THIS is a family member, right?" while shaking the bag. The finale of the routine (the location and time) is used to create a powerful conclusion that demonstrates the performer's control over time and place.

ONE IN THREE

Stuart describes a similar routine that he performs in cafés or bars using three beverage napkins. Participants are asked to draw a simple shape or image on each napkin, and it is not necessary to hide the information at this stage. They then turn the napkins face down and mix them up so they do not know which is which. Stuart mentions that he used to perform a similar piece for small groups using three tea cups, where the effect involved switching a borrowed banknote with the goal of revealing the memorized serial number, with the cups serving as an effective ruse to mask the bill switch. Stuart prefers the impromptu nature of beverage napkins over cards or blank business cards for the organic application of this type of process.

BIRTHDAY DESIRE

A routine is presented using business cards (or similar-sized papers) where participants write their full birthday. This routine is ideal for walk-around performances or for opening a show. The performer accurately reveals the participant's date of birth and confirms it with the card. The success of this routine can lead to additional work, as the demonstrated accuracy may cause the audience to request more in-depth astrological or psychic readings. The routine is credited to influential figures in mentalism such as Larry Becker and Max Maven.

Stage Variation

This routine is directly inspired by the Three Billet Routine variation by Marcus Beldig and Chris Carter. The performer uses four pre-prepared cards with the lines "BIRTH DATE" and "PLACE". The performer invites or selects four participants to join him on stage, emphasizing the importance of selecting people who look good. One of the participants (in position four) is instructed to write their full birth date and the name of a place or city they would like to visit in the future, folding the paper like a "hotdog bun" and keeping it with them. The routine is conducted with the premise that the audience assumes the performer is American, which becomes a subtle running gag about geographical knowledge. The performer uses a brightly coloured paper bag that matches the stage backdrop, unfolding it for a quick confirmation that it is empty. The performer begins by revealing the astrological sign and birth date of the first participant (Capricorn), mentioning celebrities with the same sign.

Next, the performer focuses on participant four, revealing their sign (Sagittarius) and that they are imagining returning home or to a familiar place (e.g., Dallas, Texas). The performer reveals the elements of one of the participants (e.g., Gemini) and the city they are visiting/planning, creating a moment of tension by questioning the veracity of the participant's answer. The final climax is when the performer reveals the location/city of the last participant (Barbados), drawing the city's skyline on a chalkboard. The participant confirms the location, and the performer ends the routine, telling the participant to keep the pencil and tell the story of the mind reading.

LUCKY FACE CONFABULATION

The routine is inspired by a street phenomenon in Hong Kong, where a man approaches people saying "You have a lucky face". He performs a confabulation, using a notepad for the participant to write down answers (like color or food), and reveals that he had already written them on the paper. The performer stresses the importance of preventing his adaptation from looking like a "scam" (fraud/deception), as this is how the public tends to interpret similar acts.

The performer's philosophy is to avoid this perception, arguing that if the routine were framed as a show and not a scam, people would pay for the experience. His goal is for the audience to leave with the impression of a demonstration of "psychic fore-knowledge" and wonder, minimizing thoughts about physical methods. Before creating any routine, the performer focuses on defining the story that the participants will tell and the power he is wielding.

This section describes a close-up routine utilizing a pendulum and a notepad for a demonstration of psychic fore-knowledge and influence.

Audience Perspective and Setup

The performer begins by explaining that he will create a "target" and asks the participants to work together to achieve about 75% accuracy. He uses a small notepad (pad) and a pendulum kept in a velvet bag. The performer teaches the participant how to hold and swing the pendulum, instructing them to focus and let their unconscious mind provide the answers. The combination of the swinging pendulum and focus creates an experience that reflects archetypes of hypnosis. The performer asks the participant for four pieces of information: a two-digit number, a geometric shape, a famous person, and a location in the world (city or country). The performer writes the participant's answers on the notepad.

The Routine Climax

For the pendulum handling, the performer asks the participant to hold the bead of the pendulum and have it swing in a clockwise circle. If the participant names a location or person the performer has never heard of (which happens occasionally, such as a Japanese K-Pop singer), the performer uses a save technique to try the scenario again and create a believable experience. For the revelation, the performer asks an audience member, who is not the target participant, to take the notepad. After the performer looks at the target's folded paper and nods, the participant opens the paper, and the four predictions match what they wrote. After the routine, the performer discusses the answers with the participant and sometimes offers the card and pad for a photo moment. Routine variations include placing the folded paper in a JOL vest pocket wallet or using a double envelope.

WORKING WITH CHALLENGING PEOPLE

This section details the performer's approach and philosophy for managing audience members who actively try to test or challenge the routine's process. The performer encounters participants who try to sabotage the reveal or who later claim they "wrote something to test" the performer's ability. In such cases, it is crucial to have criteria for identifying and quickly dealing with these people. If the performer senses a challenging demeanor, they can frame the interaction by stating the person is interesting and instructing them to try not to think of their initial answer. This creates an experience where the participant struggles to control their own thoughts, which is viewed as part of the psychic entertainment. If the participant's actions cause a misstep, the performer should own the situation and restructure the moment. The performer can reframe the challenging nature into a compliment, encouraging the person to show pride and own the character of being challenging. This approach is especially relevant in cultures like Hong Kong, where wealthier individuals may test the performer to assess their proficiency. The performer suggests that difficult people can also be used as a recurring character in the program, creating their own dramatic arc. For instance, they might be the person designated as "hard to read". The successful reading of that person at the end of the program results in a great payoff, and the fact that they were challenged becomes a compliment to them if framed correctly.

SPIRITUALIST Q&A

The performer's Question and Answer (Q&A) segment is presented as pure psychic entertainment, though the performer must contend with common mentalist skepticism. He notes that framing the Q&A as a stage version of a Tarot reading or a traditional spiritual practice allows it to be accepted in corporate events, which often shy away from religious or spiritual messages. For the setup (known as Nuts & Bolts), the performer uses a large bowl and index cards. Participants write their name and areas of life they want to focus on (e.g., career), folding the card before collection. Using multi-coloured cards helps the performer identify which area of the audience the card originated from. The performer begins the individual reading by looking into an object (like a crystal ball) and selecting a card based on the "psychometric vibe". Influential and detailed readings generate many private bookings. In gallery readings, he may include information such as the astrological sign and celebrities with the same sign. However, the performer insists there is an "ethical framework" to be followed. It is explicitly unethical to answer questions about death ("when will I die") or to use the reading to deliver bad news that could trigger the nocebo effect (a harmful negative expectation). To connect with the audience, he may share personal stories. To close the gallery segment, the performer uses his "Palm's Oracle" deck or a routine developed with Alain Nu, where the themes are predicted. He explains that he designed and drew the cards. The performer cuts the deck three times, and the central card is the main theme. He gives a full reading of three cards for the group, and at the end, he offers the remaining oracle decks for purchase.

CLOSING A PERFORMANCE

In this chapter, the author gives very important tips on how to close a show. It is only two pages, but with a lot of important content. The text describes the structure of the conclusion of a stage act of psychic entertainment, including the performer's summary and thank yous. It discusses what the audience tends to retain in their memory and the value of avoiding the framing of magic or mentalism. The author mentions routines that work well for closing the show and the importance of closing criteria. The chapter also includes the performer's advice on personal growth and development.

KNOWN WAY

This bonus routine uses 12 astrological zodiac cards for a demonstration of prediction and distraction. The performer frames the act as a ritual that may reveal the future. The participant mixes the cards on a velvet cloth. The performer guides the choice of a "distraction card" and the visualization of the fortune card. Based on the distraction card, the performer offers a brief reading about traits that might distract the person from their goals. The fortune card is then revealed, and the performer delivers a full, positive reading.

The book ends with a bibliography and suggestions for further reading.

If you’ve been following this review daily, today I completed the remaining posts to bring the book to a close.

You may need to go back a few posts. This brings my overview/review of this book to an end.

I hope you’ve enjoyed it.

I’ll finish with a very short review, in the style we usually find, which may be more appealing to those who don’t want to read all the previous posts.

The Ultra-Short Review

When I read a book written by someone with an established career in the field, I pay close attention to the content. And Stuart has that history in a wide range of performance contexts. This is a book clearly written from his experience accumulated over many years of real performance — which is immediately noticeable in the depth of the routines, tips, and presentations he shares. The routines are mature, audience-tested, and supported by practical wisdom that comes from the stage rather than theory. Even if you don't include any of the routines he explains in your repertoire, you will be able to apply many of the concepts and principles to your work, and you will certainly reflect on them.

The versions of the classics alone justify the investment; the remaining material only reinforces that impression with consistency. Without exaggeration, the content proves solid and genuinely useful for anyone interested in mentalism, particularly within the realm of Psychic Entertainment. It does more than teach techniques: it offers ways of thinking and structuring one's work, providing details, subtleties, and construction choices that will certainly enrich the practice of those who perform in this area. More than a mere collection of effects, it is a set of well-developed approaches and routines that will become a regular point of reference over time. I cannot imagine anyone interested in this field who wouldn't have this book in their library.

Stay tuned, because next year I’ll be back with reviews of other books. Until then. Smile

This is an awesome book, and fully agree with your summary. The thinking, routines etc are clearly honed over many years. The multiple sections on star sign divinations, birthdates, day at any date are great - and I really liked his use of leveraging Harry Lorraine's peg system for star signs, dates, and multiple other routines. I actually enjoyed the early chapter on his autobiography to get an understanding of his background, and how he developed - it really highlights the heart and soul that has gone into this work. I was hesitant initially over the price, however having received the book - absolutely no question it is well worth the investment.

Fantastic review. Initially this book was not on my radar because of the "Psychic" in the title. Now it is.
