It took me a bit of digging through boxes...I learned it from the L&L version of 13 Steps, Volume 2 (aka Step 3 - Mnemonics & Mental Systems) - taught by Osterlind who Jim Sisti says worked out this repeatable method. Preferred by myself because the numbers don't vary too wildly, aren't duplicated, and each square can be different, all of which aid my predilection for obfuscation.

My own addition is using a deliberately slightly sloppy top line as a way to cue the final tetrad, as I choose to determine my initial value and requisite final refinement while drawing the square (gives me time to think). That last bit might make sense after understanding his method.
