I really liked what you said at the end, Michael Baker... You said...
"If you need help along the way, we are always here for you!" You don't know how much that means to some here who are struggling to follow their hearts! That's why I love this place! On topic now... I'll say this Twilight... Life is full of challenges... Anything that you try to make your life's work will be a challenge... Simply put, it will be HARD... So, if it MUST to be hard, let it be something you ENJOY and are PASSIONATE about... That won't make it easy, but at least you'll have your whole heart in it... The journey will then be as enjoyable as the destination! Where's there's passion, there's happiness, I say!

Thanks for the responses everyone.
I think that part of the reason I'm drawn to magic is that it is a challenge. I don't expect it to be easy, but I think I'll end up kicking myself later on if I don't try now. :kitty: |

What would have happend if someone rained on the magical ambitions of Copperfield or Sigfried and Roy? The world would never know the talent it lost. In the end, it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about what you do or how you do it. You must be your own judge. We only have a limited time in this world. We owe it to ourselves to do what makes us happy. Does what you do enrich your life or the lives of those around you? Does it make you feel good about yourself? You would be surprised how many people go through life without being able to say yes to any of these questions. If I practice for months on end in preparation for a show, and I am able to see the smiling faces of the kids enjoying it, I KNOW that I have made a worthy investment of my time. But that's just one man's humble opinion.

To break through the barries of tradition and criticism is to gain control of your own life. The nice thing about going against the crowd, is after a while, they'll quit giving the criticism as they find that you will do what you what to do anyway and will make it work.
The key is to dig in and become excellent at this craft. Just don't settle but always work to learn and improve your methods, performances, audience interaction, etc. You'll find that if you follow this advice, you won't just rise above your own and others' expectations, you will blast right by them. You just have to dig in... |

If you want to do anything well in life, follow your heart. To let others unduly influence your actions is fine if you are ok with letting them run your life, but most adults aren't fine with others doing so. That's why many marriages fail But, do it for yourself. This is true for anything, not just magic. If 9 out of your 10 friends spend all their money to have a cool car, be the one that is strong enough to get the uncool car, if that is the one you want. If you need to impress your friends, then they aren't true friends.
I find that non-supportive people are a real drag. I personally don't find any enjoyment out of golfing, watching football on TV, or gardening, things that others do for fun. But I certainly would never find fault with them for wanting to do them. The answer to anybody's question as to why one is "wasting one's time" is perhaps best "Because I find pleasure in it". |

Twilight, I was told the same thing when I was breaking into the wrestling business. You cant let peoples negative attitudes get you down. Most of them are like that because they never reached out and tried to acheived their dreams.
