This was not written for endorsement. Just like many of the quotes I have shared, this also came from a private message and is Nicholas' genuine reaction to seeing the system/methods:

Quote:
I LOOOOOOVE THIS ROUTINE! absolutely brilliant…Instant classic! It’s a beautiful routine and a series of impromptu techniques every close up magician should know. I loved your thinking on everything. It’s all brilliant thinking. I respect you highly and appreciate your contributions to the magic community. - Nicholas Lawrence

"Genuinely the best borrowed can routine I’ve seen." - Cyril

"The Breakthrough System is one of the cleverest, most amazing uses of sleight of hand, spectator management, and just plain creativity, I have seen in a long time." - Chris Kenner

“One of the best magic tricks I’ve seen in decades!” - Adam Wilber

“The best impromptu trick I’ve ever seen." - Craig Petty

"The Breakthrough System is the final word on this effect. Johannes Mengel won!" - Mark Elsdon

People who buy a product don't buy it just because it's cheaper, they buy it because they want the product. So what's the issue? FOMO might encourage sales, it doesn't force them. People will be happy they bought it, and those who buy it right now will be happy they still got it at a lower price. What a horrible situation to be in.

I don’t agree, Patrick. Marketing that stresses I will miss out isn’t my cup of tea either. I just don’t like it. But I guess we all have our preferences.
Please check regularly if you are becoming the type of magician Jerry Seinfeld jokes about. (This applies to mentalists as well.)

I'm not saying I like it, and I'm not saying I think it's right. I also don't particularly agree that this is FOMO. FOMO is more like "buy now and get these bonuses before it's too late". Johannes is just having an extended sale on a product. Who complains about an extended sale? Buy it or don't buy it. Those who want it should be grateful it's still at a lower price.

If they like the product, they will be happy they got it for less.

If they're dissatisfied, they can get their money back through the guarantee.

I do understand how it can be off-putting, though, because it feels like he's lying and trying to manipulate people.

It all comes down to Johannes' intent. And we don't know what his intentions are for the price remaining the same beyond the price increase deadline.

Not much has happened here for 13 pages.
The marketing strategy worked out well. You're still talking about it.
Having to wait 3 months for a video tutorial (!) would be too much for me.

What exactly else do you expect to happen? It's on pre-order...

I mentioned this as part of a larger post a while back, but consider this:

Suppose the marketing had been framed as

"I am going to be selling this for 125 Euros but I am offering it now as a limited-time pre-order for 75 Euros."

Would that have been distasteful? Would that have suffered accusations of FOMO? It's essentially what every Kickstarter does. Penguin occasionally releases a new product at a limited-time discount to get you to buy right away. I don't think Johannes did anything "wrong" other than framing the marketing in an unfortunate way.

I am aware that there are certainly buyers who would wait half a year.
I would be too impatient and also believe that it has been finished for a long time.
But that's just a theory.

I was refering specifically to what I quoted from you - you said not much has happened here for 13 pages. That's because there is nothing TO happen until the product is launched.

How dare he offer a discount on his product. I find it distasteful that any seller of any product would offer different prices at different times in order to increase sales.

(I actually bought it and appreciate the discount, thanks Johannes)

No. I think the naysayers are saying the discounted price - is the real price. There is no higher price. Or rather there are no sales at the higher price. There would always need to be a sale to shift units.

Of course once the videos / product are released there are likely to be very few sales. As most magic products of this nature do over 90% of their sales before the first buyers get the products in hand. That is no reflection on this or any other product - that is just the nature of magic sales (for a certain section of creators).

So far everyone who has seen the system/methods - INCLUDING people who own my previous product in the plot and actually PAID for TBS, are very happy with what they purchased. Even while having previous knowledge about my work in this plot they were pleasantly surprised and fooled by the new versions the system provides. And these people are both professionals and hobbyists/casual performers.

Does this mean this product is for everyone and everyone will feel the same - absolutely not and that's why I'm trying to get the wrong people NOT to buy the product. Hopefully I've been clear enough who is this for and who should spend their hard earned money on something else.

Some have even said I should charge more for this. And they were hobbyists by the way not professionals. But of course there will be as many different opinions as there are people. And just like it is with PERFORMING magicians - some charge $100 for their time/service and some charge $500 for the exact same time and those performers have different audiences. Some clients simply don't value magic enough to pay over $100 or don't understand the difference between those performers and that's fine. Each to their own.

But the people I'm actually trying to reach and serve with this offer have been very pleased. I have never experienced with any of my release before that household names reach out to me THEMSELVES to give me their quotes or endorsements because of their genuine excitement about the system/methods.

For example this one from Mark Elsdon:

Quote:
“I think this is fabulous Johannes! 'System' is the right word - this covers every possible way of a tab magically penetrating into a can. If you want a quote from me about it, here you are:

"The Breakthrough System is the final word on this effect. Everyone else can stop thinking of methods for the can penetration. Johannes Mengel won." - Mark Elsdon (The Fig)

I will be putting this as the lead item in this week's issue of The Fig.”

And also Tim Trono, who works at Penguin Magic and sees HUNDREDS of new tricks per year actually bought TBS and shared his experience in this thread:

Quote:
For me, this was money well spent. It's something I'll use forever. The thinking is strong, and I've had a blast working with it. There's one phase where, after watching the explanation, I literally laughed - it's that smart.

And Michael Ammar before sending his quote to me specifically said he is not giving quotes to anything he is not actually going to use.

So people to who this product is for, I'm pretty sure you will be equally happy as all those other magic lovers who have already seen it.

Looking forward to seeing you in the community!
Smile

Yeah, I've shown this to a few actual buyers. Not the official product/masterclass though as it's not finished and I'm still working on it, but I showed him my draft version of the product so he knows the workings of the system.
