Oh I understand that. I’ve been around magic for 50 years. In that time, I have seen and personally experienced, many issues when buying directly from the creators. Most are one man bands so to speak, and have no business running a business, and others are well, crooks. I’m not saying the OP is either. My guess is that this item won’t make it to a large distributor. I don’t believe that anybody is anticipating its release more than the pirates.

My typical approach was to release my stuff through retailers, but the truth is no company will care more about my product than I do and give it more attention then I can, because for them my product is just one of many… So I decided to try something else and do it solo, but I’ll be honest it’s hard to do all the marketing side on my own especially if you have no list and following… So recently I actually did end up doing a deal with Vanishing where they will help me to get the word out, but the customers can still get the special personalised experience I wanted to create for them on my own platform where they can access the masterclass and the community and also book a session with me. This way I can still create the unique experience I had in mind, but get help from a retailer to make sure people know that this opportunity/product even exists.

A few days ago performed TBS to Blaine and today performed it to Dynamo. Got the footage as well this time, will share soon!

I don't think Johannes did anything wrong here. He was posting quotes from many well-known professionals and getting pushback on how genuine that feedback was. So he gathered a group of people from this group, even inviting some people who had shown skepticism about this release. As one of group (who had already purchased) I can tell you that nobody learned enough to take the place of buying this. We saw about 20 minutes of uncut performances, and Johannes tipped a few of the methods -- many of which any experienced magician would have already known. But none of us walked away knowing enough to really perform without buying.
The fact is that many releases are given to reviewers free. How many of the YouTube reviewers do you think pay for the stuff they get to review? And we didn't get the release for free, just a Zoom preview and discussion. People will seize on just about anything to complain about. |

Yeah, I don't think he's done anything wrong. If anything, he's trying a little too hard to please everyone.
As a creator, you're free to give your products to whoever you like. Johannes also invited me to the Zoom call, but I wasn't able to attend. I pre-ordered ages ago, so at least some of the people invited were already customers. Personally, I'm not a fan of pre-orders in general, and I've told Johannes I'll be reviewing TBS once it's officially released. He was perfectly fine with that. My interactions with him confirm he's a genuine and decent bloke who's simply trying his best. Marty |
