Every day the real world changed. Nothing changes much faster than the interwebs.
Used to be that not too long ago a solid web page was essential for most performing business strategies. For most businesses for that matter. But there has been a shift to where social media is becoming much more of a way to do this interweb stuff. We are fast arriving at or are in the midst of a time when Facebook pages replace web pages. How has your internet presence changed?

I have found that Facebook 9and other social media) is how suffering too as many aren't keeping up or active with it. A website was essentially set it and forget it once up and done right with the exception of updates and tweaking. (Now Mike Clay will probably say that shouldn't be and he would be right, but for many, this is their reality). All social media is so much more time-consuming and demanding of you. Many are leaving their social media to only an occasional post or activity.

Yes Facebook has a weird progression to it as if you start predicated on interesting content, you have to put out a large volume of it to keep relevant.
Alleged magicians have an interesting journey to irrelevance with it. They start out doing tricks and then FAST run out. Then they purchase tricks to keep going. Then they start to “teach” tricks. Moving quickly to flat out exposure. Then try doing tricks so badly that they get people to comment for bad they are and just troll people to comment. It is some combination of this crap they try. All because 99% of them couldn’t make it as live performers in the first place. I was more talking though argue those using social media instead of a web page. Many businesses do so and to me it is much different.

Yeah, I never understood the magicians trying to perform online and then explain poorly executed tricks on Youtube or social media. It must be ego-based, because it rarely does the art any good. Plus it is usually not theirs to explain or reveal in the first place. Do they really think it will lead to business or bookings? Do they not see how poorly and often unprofessional it makes them look? They probably aren't even performers at all, most of them.
It almost always does more damage than even potential good. Again, it should never be about the tricks! These social media and Youtube guys do just this... try to make it about the tricks. And then the guys that try to do "reviews' under the premise of "helping the community!" Another problem for the art and industry. It's just their own opinion based on their position and situation. Just because you (or anyone) can doesn't mean you should! None of this is the social media or web presence one would want. |

It isn’t any sort of presence I’d want.
