I think that some of the quibbles people have found with Petty's routine with this trick are unfounded. Obviously, you had to rewind and watch it how many times to find your complaint?
Also, those who complain about doing a force by riffling with so few cards, well, guess what? If I use this gimmick in a whole deck, I use several of these with the same force card, different face cards, evenly spaced. Using a whole deck doesn't mean that a spectator isn't watching what part of the deck you are riffling at when they say stop. you can EASILY force in a packet of 10, by not sweating it. If they don't stop at the force card, you can say, I think I went past that, let's do this again. If you don't sweat it and stay calm, this force is quite easy with 10 cards. You just have to calm down and do it. Too many of these so called problems are caused by people who spend their time rethinking and rewinding the download, rather than just relaxing and performing it. Petty is a pro and he wasn't joking when he said he gave us a top effect of his. Just practice, start performing, and do it. ok? |

I think Picard’s points are valid and well founded.

That is why you sell on Lybrary and not on Penguin? c'mon. If one of the best magicians has used this as a workhorse for years, then sitting around and chit chatting and trying to detract from something that is easy to do if you just relax and practice a bit, is
just granny gossip. I am tired of people complaining about such sensible things like putting a billet back in a wallet, which many top mentalists do. It is fine to voice your opinion. But to opine that techniques that top pros have used in some of their anchor blockbuster effects are unworkable is just again, effeminate granny gossip. Useless. I would like it if someone could recommend something better? Nope, instead they just blast sound performing techniques. Thanks again Mr. Petty, for one of the best packet tricks ever, done just as you teach it. |

I'm not sure why forcing from a small packet needs to be ANYTHING. You just counted 10 cards in front of them, turned them over, and showed the faces. Next line would be, "Now, look at a random card from the middle," and perform the riffle force. This isn't a pick-a-card trick. The card being in the middle of the packet and the fact that the magician doesn't actually see said card is sufficient. A force in this case won't be seen by a Muggle as helpful anyway. You still have to remove the card and make it move across, so there isn't much point to a force in the Muggles mind. Also, there is SO much time misdirection...IMHO, YMMV

Please read a name carefully before you start bashing the wrong person. 2) If you are tired of people complaining about tricks, re-read your posts on the breakthrough system thread and be sure to report back after that. If you love this: good for you. But you can’t assume a trick is good for everybody because YOU love it. Me, Picard and Jared all have the same problems with it. Not big problems, but still worth discussing here, we think. Because that’s what we do here: we discuss pros and cons.

By the way, if you use several of these gimmicks with different face cards (and the same force card) in one deck, you are very free to stop very near where they tell you to. They never never complain. After all, it is a whole deck.
Also, you can flip the deck in a subtle way, let them look through the cards. Their chosen card has vanished. They will never find it. Very easy to make gimmicks. The face cards which are different, are short cards from a short deck. The Force cards are regular length cards from a one way deck. Square the cards at the bottom, and glue them over 1/3 of the bottom joining surfaces with super glue! Unmasked magician, thanks so much for your contributions. You are a star and frankly, some of the errant things I post are only because I can't talk with many magicians. so you are right, and I say, forgive me I was wrong. Also, you are right about the Breakthrough System comments I made. I was wrong and finally admitted it because so many top magicians rated it highly. I thought we were seeing a lot of hot air about prepayment of something that might not be delivered, but again, I was wrong. So at least I can say, I was wrong, accept my admission if you can. And yes, there is great value to people discussing different opinions here. I can't personally imagine doing magic without the help of the Magic Cafe. So thanks to all of you sincerely!!! It's probably because someone doesn't accept a standard working that people go out on their own and keep magic improving and interesting. |

Using this gimmick to force in a full deck is an absolute breeze. No need to have more than one gimmick in the deck. It’s much easier than a timing force because even if the spectator tells you to stop a bit sooner than you expected, the moment they say “Stop” you can quickly riffle off more cards until the gimmick naturally catches your thumb. So even if your timing is slightly off, you can still pull it off easily in a very fair and convincing way. My preference when doing it with the full deck is to have the gimmick somewhere around 20th from the top so when I am riffling I know I have to go slightly over the middle to reach the gimmick. By the way, I prefer the short card in the gimmick to be a bit more shortened than a standard short card. At least that’s how the gimmick I got with the “Foot Where?” effect is made. It’s slightly more shortened than a gimmick from Instant Teleport which makes it even more surefire and unmissable when riffling. It’s still very deceptive, and you can safely hand the deck to the spectator and let them go through the cards themselves to verify that their card is gone. Some of us do have an issue using this gimmick in a small packet — it simply feels awkward to execute a riffle force with only nine cards. I can do it if I have to, but I’m just not comfortable with it and it looks weird and maybe even bit dodgy depending on the group I am performing to. Nevertheless, some people disagree and are fine with the trick as it is. Would really love to see how their forcing looks like though. But I respect their opinion of course. And I wouldn’t say anyone was being overly critical of Craig whatsoever. Even without the main effect, for the price I feel I got more than my money’s worth. Instant Teleport is more than just 1 trick, it’s a project full of cool ideas on how to use the gimmick. |

Great routine overall, but I also agree with some of the criticisms about using a nightmare gimmick in a packet this small. This is a really arguable theoretical point, though, and is bound to vary from performer to performer and scenario to scenario.
There are some versions of the plot I prefer, but I can see folks liking this one too. |

Picard, I am sure you can do this fine with one gimmick. But with like 3 gimmicks, I can truly stop VERY CLOSE TO where they say stop. I can't imagine nobody noticing if they say stop 1/3 of the way or so into the deck and you have to jump another 10 cards to get to the force card. I am not arguing with you bro, but I think it feels more natural and you can be more open in doing the force with someone eyeballing it. Again, I know people can go from a 5th card stop to the 26th card, in a jump, but you can have people watch much more closely and it looks more like the real thing. It's cool if that works with you, I am just trying to make it look as real as possible because it is just as easy to use 3 gimmicks as 1. They will never find their card if you have them go through the deck....

Is this the same gimmick used by Piff's the "Trick With a Name"? (It seems like it is)

The first application where I used this gimmick was Hen Fetch's Wallet Wallop. This is a routine where you perform a card to wallet twice, with two different cards (two gimmicks in the deck of course).
Great gimmick with a lot of possibilities. |

Countrymaven you might be interested in Get Sharky by card shark. Watch the demo and tell me that isn't something you're wanting. The only downside is its a phoenix back deck. Zero reset time and perfect for walk around or if someone in the same group says do it again or you can do multiple spectators at the same time.
