Despite being married to me, Jan's card handling is as primitive and unrefined as any laymen. She possesses no special skills or sensitivity, nor does she have any desire to develop them.

I tabled the deck in front of her. I told her that she was going to learn how to precisely cut a deck. I told her that, thanks to her delicate, sensitive fingers, I was confident that she would quickly develop the "touch."

I asked her to gently grasp the narrow ends of the deck between her thumb and second finger and cut the deck precisely by lifting half of it straight up. I included some visualization. I assured her that it would "feel right" when she was successful.

She lifted the top half of the deck and tabled it.

I asked her to use both hands to cut the two piles into four. It took her several seconds to confidently cut off both portions.

I regret failing to record her first attempt. I was already asking her to execute a novel task. I didn't want her to feel the additional pressure and anxiety of doing so while being recorded. I encouraged her to feel optimistic.

When she turned over the top card of each pile, she screamed and laughed. She was amazed! She fruitlessly searched the deck for other Aces. And she had no idea how she did it!

I was even more amazed and delighted!

She demanded to try it again.

I reassembled the deck, false shuffled it and tabled it. I grabbed my phone.

This is the most incredible, hands-free, version of the mis-named "Spectator Cuts to the Aces" that I've ever seen.

I'm familiar with most methods, going all the way back to Caryl Fleming's "The Four-Ace Merry Mix Up" published in Card Tricks That are Easy to Learn, Easy to Do in 1935.

I've never seen my method used to performer this effect.

I can't believe that no one has previously employed this straightforward, almost intuitive method.

Have any of you seen anything like this?

I'm going to try this on other layfolk. If I can consistently, facilitate their successful cutting technique, I'll be ecstatic. I'll appropriately call my version, "Participant Actually Cuts to the Aces."
