I'll look at Shanghai again with that in mind, JP.

Not sure if this is within your capabilities but how can we not mention Digital Copper Silver (transposition) by the great David Roth. Brilliant, direct, and amazing.

Hi folks,

Can anyone suggest tricks, or sources for them, that fit the description in my subject line?

I can do a finger palm and a false transfer. I'm sure I can learn the Bobo Switch. I looked in Bobo and found that all the c/s tricks he described either allowed the spectator to hold the gimmick for a moment, or also used shells. I believe that Bobo had excellent audience management skills, but I know I don't, so I want to learn tricks that don't involve specs handling the gimmick.

There's a pamphlet by Jerry Mentzer on c/s, and Cameron Francis and Dave Forrest have a DVD on it. I don't know what the tricks in these last two sources are like, or how hard they are.

Finally, there's a pretty trick by Colombini that starts as a card trick which seems to fail, transitions to a c/s coin trick, and then, as a surprise ending, the selection from the failed card trick turns up in his hand instead of the coin. The problem I see is that it will be obvious to spectators that the "selection" was forced. (Unless I used a mercury fold; not sure how hard that is.)

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,

Bob

Love this coin! It remains to me to be one of the best coins ever made for coin magic. It’s one of the very first I ever had growing up in NYC. And I still have one to this day because of its great & lasting value, and all you can magically do with it.

So yeah, the Jerry Mentzer pamphlet you mentioned is a great place to start as to this. A good basic introduction and then some doable work with the coin. Definitely worth a good look-see on the topic and as a reference.

Oh, and Jerry Mentzer did a lot of good work in the magic world. Smile

Good journey to you. Smile

Thanks, Marion! There's something so appealing about the coin, even if you're not using it for magic.

The old simple little routine that used to come with the coin was plenty IMHO. The effect of it changing hands and then changing in the spec’s hand was some good coin magic and I bet still is.Smile Of course there are effects with the coin that are much more involved, like my own Copper Silver INC trick, but it just goes to show you how the coin sparks lasting creativity from such a humble and simple beginning.
