A WOOD BLOCK APPEARS INSIDE A MATCHBOX

From the mind of Hanson Chien.

The highly anticipated sequel to the global bestseller Holy Wood is finally here. After five years, Hanson returns with the next evolution of a masterpiece that sold over 5,000 units and earned high praise from legends like Lu Chen and Shin Lim.

BASIC EFFECT
Pocket Holy Wood features two impossible miracles:
1. A solid block of wood magically appears from a completely empty matchbox.
2. A mini deck inside a card box instantly transforms into a solid block of wood.

A WORD FROM HANSON CHIEN
"I've held onto this idea for years, and in 2026, it finally found its perfect form. Pocket Holy Wood isn't just smaller—it completes the Holy Wood experience. Puzzle or story, it delivers one thing: THE IMPOSSIBLE."

Yes. It takes up less pivket space. But I yhink ot aldo is less impactful than using the full deck sized version. I suppose uf picket soace is that much of a priblrm, then the matchbox version is fine but at thst size I think I would prefer the standard steel block version.

This looks good to a casual hobbyist. For those of you in the know, do you think this would be easy enough and fun to just carry in your pocket and pull out whenever the opportunity arose, like with a waiter, etc? Thanks.

I carry a deck of cards more than matches these days. However, to collectors of brass block/matchbook items, this may be a great addition.

If you want to see what the tutorial covers, you can view the table of contents in this video. Can't believe they got Dan Harlan to share his ideas and do the interview. That's so cool.

Is the reset as per original Holy Wood?
Does it require the same degree of 'hand strength' to reset?

Great effect it's just the reset that puts me off.

Since everyone is speaking in code and I do not know how this works, is the reset difficult or not? Thanks.

Not difficult just not considered instant reset.

I've always loved this effect. I've gotten so much milage out of Jamie Grant's Industrial Revelation. The weight of the block makes such an impact when it's revealed...but I definitely like the idea of something smaller and lighter to use in casual situations, so I ordered Pocket Holy Wood and it just arrived. Very clever design, excellent quality, and I can see using this quite a bit. I only have one quibble. I wish the grain of the wood on the end pieces didn't run horizontal. It doesn't line up with the grain that runs on the top. It's not natural and if someone knows anything about wood, they'll know this is a constructed block and not a natural occurring piece of wood.

I bought Hanson's Holy Wood and think it's wonderful. As much as I liked Jamie Grant's Industrial Revelation and the original Matchbox Block from Spain, having something lighter in your pocket is worth the trade-off. But I don't see the advantage of this unless it could reset automatically. Sure, the size is smaller (pocket-friendly) but you're walking around with a weird looking brand of matches (or tiny deck) unless you can find a suitable USA brand of matches plus the reset is identical to Holy Wood. I just can't see spending money for this unless they somehow raised the bar with the resetting.

Compare the reset of Pocket Holy Wood (or standard Holy Wood) to the instant reset of Solid Condom and I think you’ll find the extra weight of Solid Condom very much worth it. Now add the fact that SC can be instantly repeated (which makes it look much more like magic than a puzzle) and SC also comes with a custom belt holder and I think you have the winner. SC is the best version of this type of effect that has ever been created.
