I would like to know if you tell the original story of the trick that you learned or you devise your own.
And if you have a good story of one trick that you can post here please do.
(Please remember I'm brazilian, so I'm soory for my english, again.)

I assume that by 'story', you mean the patter that accompanies the trick.

My approach to this is to stick with the original patter till I know every bit of the trick and I can understand the psychology behind the trick's design.

I then alter it to fit my own personal style of presentation.

If the trick has a good presentation that would fit me, then I'll use it. Even then, though, I'll try to personalize it somewhat.

You must fit or create a patter to your style.
It gives you a personal routine, not a 9999th copy.

First thing I do when I fit a trick to my style, is to avoid as much patter as possible.

I like style of Vallarino, Copin and Gary Oullet very much. They barely speak in their close-up performance. (At least when I saw them).

It's a good idea to fit your words to your character. Some people can get away with comedy or seriousness better than others.

I change the patter immediately based on how I think the effect will appear. A lot of times you buy something and the patter is absolutely lousy.

I try to look at the effect and say, why am I doing this? Does this make sense (patter vs effect)? What's the greater story around it?

I rarely perform the trick as suggested let alone take the patter!
