About three years ago, I came up with an intriguing embellishment of my friend Max Maven’s "Duprediction" (from Thabbatical, 1994). Tomas Blomberg provided a small tweak that made it even better, and, at the insistence of R. Paul Wilson, I eventually figured out how to make it completely sleightless. It is very fun to perform!

Earlier today, it was released by Penguin Magic: https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/23059

The demo video is a little rushed, like demos must, to compete for the attention in a world with short attention span, but it shows everything that need to be seen.

In actual performance, it is nice to isolate the reveals a bit. To point at the spectator's first choice, and ask a leading question that steers them towards the prediction. Like, if the choice is "chicken", you can ask "One question is why it crossed the road, what is the other famous question?" They answer "What came first, the chicken or the egg", whereupon you say "In this case, the egg came first" and reveal the picture of the "Egg".

Check it out! Smile

This looks very nice! I love that it's not a simple matching effect but something more unique and visual.

This looks a refreshing take on Max Maven's exceedingly clever original.

It reminds me of The Moment by Andy Nyman, which I have. I think I am going to get this too.

Any chance to see a full performance or does that give it away?

The trailer contains an almost full performance. They've shaved off a few seconds for time, but nothing essential has been removed. While the presentation differs, the "modus operandi" is a slightly modified handling of Max Maven's "Duprediction", so you can look that up if you want to know more before taking the plunge! Smile

Good to see this. It is also good that Tom Stone has reminded us of what a great effect Max Maven's Duprediction is. There is also scope for interaction with the spectator as they make their choices, adding more meaning to the effect and outcome.

Reminds me of the TCC recent release 'This or That'.

They add a very nice subtlety where you make an error in the match up, which is then shown to have been predicted.

I think this routine would work best for a formal performance, where there is space and the performer has more control over who handles the props, and how.

I can't see myself performing this strolling.

In the three years I've performed this, I have not once used it for strolling, so I agree with your assessment. But quite a few times, I have done it at the end of strolling gigs, when people have lingered afterwards. That's when I usually have done Out of This World, but these days I do PIXX instead. I think it works good in conversational settings.

That makes a lot of sense Tom.
And frankly I defer to your vast experience and expertise.

Yes, I agree with all this. The effect would be brilliant in conversational settings. I also very much like the spectator input in all of this - they really are involved and can become wrapped up in the selection process.

Looks like a nice parlor effect or as Tom noted, a bonus or encore type effect that you can do before departing from a strolling gig.

I purchased it and watched the tutorial. The tutorial is about 15 minutes long which includes a live performance and a clear and thorough breakdown of the routine and handling by Erik Tate. It's very easy to learn and to perform. There are no card sleights per se. If you can pick up an envelope you can do this routine. The methodology and handling are very clever and quite clean and deceiving. The routine is fun and entertaining and magical. Highly recommended.

I received an email about Pixx and thought was a fun and clever effect. The imagery made me think go emojis and apps.

Hej Tom, on another note. Did you get to celebrate with King Carl on his 80th birthday? Smile
I saw a video clip of him dancing at some club, maybe Cafe Opera.

I'm not a "royalist", so I had no idea that he he had turned 80, nor did I celebrate. But congrats to him, I guess. Smile
