Can anyone recommend a source for good replacement rubber bands for coin-in-the-bottle folding coins? My understanding is that Roy Kueppers’ RK Bands and Schoolcraft V3 bands are not appropriate for multi-part folding coins with sharp edges.

Cafe member inigmntoya has shared a wonderful elastic thread for folding coins, which I cannot find that topic at the moment. Perhaps reach out to him or search the cafe about folding coin repairs.

If there are significant differences or important points to make regarding the use of bands (of whichever sort) for flipper coins vs. folding coins, it’d be nice to see them discussed.
For instance: obviously folders need to snap open reliably and fully, so as to appear flat and normal upon release (e.g., within a bottle). Do elastic threads for beads work as well as rubber bands for teeth, in that sort of application?

Jamie Schoolcraft has bands for his flipper that are pretty interesting, not sure if he has other sizes.

Yes, I mentioned Schoolcraft’s new V3 bands in my first post. I don’t believe they’re recommended for folding coins, but I should double check with Jennae.

I've used elastic beading cord on folders.
I'd say rubber bands provide better snap but the cord is ususable. Small silicone hairbands work well too and shouldn't rot like orthodontic rubber bands. Quote:

Thanks. I did come across those. Wish I had asked last week because they also look like one size could be perfect to hold a coin folded in a pocket so it could be palmed already folded (tying a string to the rubber band and pinning it in the pocket). I bought a few hundred rubber bands just for this purpose last week. :O

I’ll second the GOODY hairbands. I ordered a pack from Amazon (each pack contains bands of three different sizes, i.e. small, medium, and large), and used one to reassemble my old folding half dollar (a three-piece model, for coin-in-bottle stuff).
It was a nice, tight fit and took a bit of effort to stretch around the total circumference. But that’s a good thing, because the folded coin snaps open and flat quite reliably and well. Being silicone, I hope to find them very durable and prone neither to snapping nor rotting/melting. Time will tell. So far, so good.

I do not do the coin in bottle, but the middle size band from GOODY may help, as there are 3 sizes. I need my halves to open up fast, as I use them in a coin wand so I use the smaller band.

We could really use some sort of handy-dandy master spec sheet or standardized size chart for magicians' bands, indicating optimal fits/matches for all our various gaffs.

I just put a small regular latex band (also from Kueppers) back on my folding half. It came out of the bottle nice and easy.
But then I dropped it right back into the bottle, and the !$#@%^&* coin promptly fell apart into three pieces. One band's too tight. One band's too loose. I give up.
