Anyone ever tried stand-up 3-card monte?

I got the notion from "Gamblin' Sam" who used to run the shell game standing up with a jeweler's pad as the surface:

He got a LOT of mileage out of that handling, which got me thinking whether the same could be done with monte. Sam himself never tried it as far as I know:

Regardless, it'd be limited to the hype and a lot of the quick-mixes would have to be discarded or replaced, but I'm thinking the standard bent corner ending should still be workable

Before I dive too deeply into this, though, I thought I'd ask around whether anyone else has ever tried

He was one of a kind. I argued with him forever about doing the move so fast. I didn’t think anyone actually convinced themselves of where it was supposed to be. He kept pointing out that the bets seemed to differ. He was right it course.

His ability to build bets was extraordinary. And he got the money off of him so well!

To clarify are you doing it for entertainment or grifting?

Strictly entertainment, although I learned it from my grand-dad who was a real life grifter

For a long time, my go-to routine was Darwin Ortiz's from, I think, his first book

As a gambling demo, it's an audience pleaser

Regarding Sam's speed ... I agree it was too quick to be properly deceptive, but I think that actually added to his appeal. He was honest about being tricky, for one thing, but his quick moves made it seem like the marks actually had a chance. Too slow, and it becomes obvious that he must be cheating. Call it a hustler's "too perfect" theory

Naw it was just his way. He knew his crowd and the “I’ll do it again”schtick” was part of it.

You can do anything you want if it is entertainment. Including having them hold the pad.
