Anyone ever tried stand-up 3-card monte?
I got the notion from "Gamblin' Sam" who used to run the shell game standing up with a jeweler's pad as the surface: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4uBJEHLH3o I adopted a lot of his handling for a more formal shell game, including the final multiple cover steal. But I do love the simplicity of a good monte routine. Sam himself did monte using two hands: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPBDdvLZ......index=30 But I'm thinking that, for magicians and gambling demonstrations, the mixing isn't as important as the hype and handling the bent corner Before I dive too deeply into this, though, I thought I'd ask around whether anyone else has ever tried |

If you're performing magic (which includes gambling demo's) you can do whatever you want to do. There is no protocol or tradition to follow.
If you're exercising the actual short con, in either a demonstration or as per "Sam", then the Monte is always on a table, done with two hands. There are priceless posts here in The Gambling Spot from a former member of "Sam's" crew. Seek those posts out, as his thoughts are essentially "Sam's" thoughts on both the Monte and the Top and Ball.
