I built this and I'm posting it here myself — full disclosure up front.

**The effect (Numbers)**

A plain phone screen: a button that says GENERATE, a number underneath. Hand it to a spectator — theirs or yours, it runs in any browser, nothing to install. They tap it. The number that comes up is the one you already predicted — sealed in an envelope, written on a card, however you like to frame it. Up to ten numbers, in any order you choose, if you're running a sequence rather than a single prediction.

**The effect (Letters)**

Same setup, a different payoff. Four letters cascade in, and the spectator makes a word from them — a word you already knew they'd land on.

**How it actually runs**

- Web-based, not an app — works on any borrowed phone, nothing to download or install
- Nothing in your hands to switch, ditch, or palm
- You set your own forces on a private setup page before the show; the spectator's screen shows nothing but a plain, honest-looking generator that stays on the spectators phone with nothing to find.

Would people not assume that it's just a button that prints one of several predetermined words? That would be my first assumption as a participant the moment you asked me to open a website.

They do not suspect a page of predetermined words because the spectator can stop at any page and even on that page choose more than one word. Also the website lives on the spectators phone and they can press buttons as long as they like and never see the same words again, further cementing free choice. It’s the same with Numbers, both are very clever and clean.

Is there a performance video, or a screenshot of what the webapp the participant goes to looks like? I'm curious for sure but not convinced this wouldn't just screen "website forcing a certain word or number". It's very very difficult to introduce actual randomness. That said, if it is clean looking and no chance of the participants suspecting anything I actually have a couple places in my kit that this could be super useful.

Chaz93, On the website it shows a walkthrough so you can see exactly what it looks like. I can tell you nobody ever suspects the website because its on t heir phone and they can play with it all they like and never find anything. Everything ends perfectly clean with no sign of anything other that a normal website that generates random numbers and by the way there are actually a lot of random number generator websites so they never suspect anything other than what it appears to be and what is left on their phone. What is really cool is you don’t have to have anything on you at all and still blow minds. Thanks for asking.
