I just got the hummer card trick. I practiced it for a while and can preform it ok, but I've had a problem with the *cough* that makes it work. It breaks during the middle of my performance. Any tips?

What type of *cough* are you useing. There are many types. Kevin James has a good one to use. It is not an elastic on that I am sure you might have. Kevin James is a very unelastic type of *cough*. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work.

With time you will get over breakage. When I first began performing this effect I suffered often but after awhile I became more adept at minimizing stress on the *cough*. Also, use off beat moments to unwind which will greatly prolong the life of the *cough*.

I remember when I first obtained Hummer's Whirling card. My cough came directly out of my coughing machine. Nothing else available at that time! Of course, it was for stage.

When practicing the Hummer Card with *cough* you have to remember to rewind the *cough* after a couple of "Wirls" or else the *cough* is likely to snap.
BTW don't flick it to hard, and remember to lower your hand so there's no snag on the *cough* before you flick it. :goodluck: -e-

Which technique does everyone favour with this one?
The Fearson 'flick', or the handheld 'spin'? IMO the spin looks better, but the flick is safer (and easier)

Depends, but I perfer the 'flick', I belive the noise from the 'flick' and the speed it wirls the card enhances the effect, less movement of you - bigger movement of the card makes for greater magic I belive.

Learn something new everyday. I never knew it made a sound. Ofcourse my deafness might have something to do with it. Seriously though, I didn't know that. Pretty cool. I prefer to spin the card almost like I'm tossing a frisbe (I guess that would be the spin rather then the flick). The reason isn't really in what is better. I often toss it toward someone and they'll sometimes jump a little as if to catch it. When I do this I don't give it any attention though. I don't point and laugh at them for jumping. What happens is they are reacting to there own reflexes then there minds are shifted to the amazement that the card is floating. Kind of a psych effect. Ron Jaxon |

Get Michael Ammar's DVD on it. Although, he does not teach how to make the card go around your body.
With my kind of cough it does not break. |

Bob Hummer himself passed away long ago right?
Who is marketing the effect using his name? Any ideas? Dr Magic  |

Guess it's Jon Jensen who wrote and illustrated the "Hummer Card" booklet, with credits to Bob Hummer of cause..

This is an excellent effect and comes highly recommended by me!!! Just approach with a little patience and some finesse and it will pay back dividends exponentially for the time and effort you put into it!!! *Cough* effects are often unrivaled and very hard to beat.
