I'm needing to get my hands on some duplicate double facers, i.e. double facers that are the same card on each side. Does anyone know if these are made or am I going to have to do some card splitting? I have a ton of different face value doubles, but have never encountered the same suit and value on both sides.
They're being used in a unique torn and restored effect called 'Fusion', so they will be destroyed, and they need to be the thickness of just one card. Thanks for any info you guys (or gals) can provide. |

I think you will have to make them. To speed things up you could split 1 card so that the single layer is the face. Then take that single (face) layer and glue it to the back of the regular card. This would mean you would have 4 layers instead of a regular 3-layer card but you would only have to split one card. I don't know how important it is for your card to look/feel normal. Try it and see how it comes out. If not you might have to split 2 cards to make the card as you would for any other gimmicked card. I am not sure how fast you are at splitting cards but if you are going to tear the double face cards up it sounds like a lot of work to make the effect up?

lol...oh man..
I know it's fun to split cards and glue them together. But you can just go out and spend 7 bucks and purchase a double facer deck from a magic shop. why spend time doing all that work. I know of which effect you are speaking of and it's a cool effect, so just go out and buy the double faced cards. |

They usually match red with black on those decks so I don't know if they make one of those that is the same on both sides.

Ask Lee Asher, I won't mention the trick but he might be able to point you in the right direction as he has some double faced cards that don't appear in a normal double-faced deck.

SBS cards (Same Both Sides) are routinely available from Neil Lester: http://www.cardsbymartin.com
Also, Gary Plants makes excellent gaffs of all kinds, so I'm sure he'd be able to accomodate this request as well. TCR |

Well, if you're still up to making them yourself. Ben Harris has a good card splitting tutorial on his website: http://wowbound.com
Though I think I might just ask Lee, myself. Cheers, dchung |

I will one day write my own book. In the meantime I have been purchasing gaff cards of all kinds. In the last mixed gaff deck that I got from themagicwarehouse.com there was a consecutive run of five diamonds same card face on each side. (10 on 10, J on J)
I only looked at the mixed gaffs, but I think they have decks of all types. I have been going from shop to shop and none of them seem to cater to the card folks. They all have some of the types of decks missing from their stocks. HINT:The decks they are out of are the same ones you want. Not the ones they have.

Neil Lester will make ANY type of gaffed card you need. He has been in business solely doing this for over 20 years.
http://www.cardsbymartin.com I recommend him highly. Steven

Actually, Bicycle DF decks have several "repeater" or "twin" cards.
In my new book Magishing My Way (see Let's Make a Magic Deal section), I have a routine that uses 3 such cards. It's called "Tri-Optical Illusion" (page 85).

This is a really old thread, but does anyone know now of a source to purchase a deck of double faced cards that would be the same card on both sides of the double facer (e.g. AH/AH, JC/JC, etc for all 52 cards in the deck)? Thank you in advance.

The standard full deck of double facers has at least a few with the same card on both sides -- often the Jack of Clubs I've found when tracking cards down for the Carlyle force.

This just popped up and the person responsible actually posted about here on the Café.
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=203&0 I assume once they are made some magic shop will be selling them, but you can preorder on kickstarter if you are so inclined. |
