Hope you're all okay there in Florida. Here in Taiwan we also have a large share of typhoons yearly. One recently swamped the whole Island and caused billions of dollars damage. We get earthquakes regularly as well.

We Brits have this obsession with our weather, and this summer has been dreadful, but compared with other parts of the world we do live in a peaceful area weather-wise. Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and over the weekend an undersea earthquake off the coast of Japan causing a tidal wave. I think I'll take a damp summer any time.
Best wishes to all those in Florida. Sounds like it was rough, but, hopefully, not as fierce as was first predicted.

Hi again from Southwest Florida!
Ya know, I REALLY hope we have none of our members face the devastation that Ivan is dishing out right now...as I write this, this town is likely to be hit dead center, if the computer models are accurate. I'd post a link, but suffice it to say, they all converge between Naples and Tampa... Fellow Magi, pray for the guy in Key West that posts here from time to time, I can't find his Member name. They're evacuating right now...(there's someone knocking at my door...ok, I'm back) We just received a warning here at my condo...great...buildings may be in danger...I'll tell ya guys, I'm tired of running. I'm staying put. Come what may. There's no gasoline to be had anywhere, and I've got less than 1/4 tank. If we pull through this, or if Ivan takes a left turn away from us, I'll come back and post! Good Luck to ALL! Wind-Weary Doug |

Hang in there! It's great to see everyones concern and greatly appreciated. This third storm could be the worst. I would be willing to perform in a Benefit for those less fortunate if someone would put one together.

I hope Ivan The Terrible takes a turn also. I truly sympathize with everyone in Florida that took a hit. There was lots of flooding around here from the remnants of Frances, but thank God I was spared and didn't suffer any damages. It's hard to imagine 3 in a row, this strong, this close together. Good luck to all of you.

UPDATE:
Thank you for the PM's...very kind words, and yes WE are fine, but what about YOU guys, in the Panhandle, New Orleans? Are ya gonna be OK? Just saw this: Extremely dangerous Hurricane Ivan headed for the northern Gulf Coast...a Hurricane Warning is in effect from Grand Isle Louisiana to Apalachicola Florida...including the greater New Orleans area and Lake Pontchartrain. Some tips, if this is your first time: If you're gonna be hit by a big one, count on power being out for DAYS, that's just one, though. Water is also likely to be off, along with phones and cell phones. Count on it and prepare. My suggestion for the water situation, is fill your tub up with water for flushing with. Try to only empty the bowl itself with a gallon or less, if you can. Toilets these days empty with a few quarts, if aimed right at the drain hole. If you think you're going to be hit hard, and your structure is in danger, find a closet as close to center of your dwelling and bring a mattress to put over you. Have food and water close by, in case you're in there a while before the crews get to you. Scary stuff...good luck to all! Doug |
