Sorry for what may appear a no brainer, but can anyone point me to a thread about Black Hart's trilogy?
I did a search with no joy but am looking for a review / contents listing so I can be sure they are for me before I buy. Thanks in advance for the help

There are no many good books in bizarre as this one, so I highly recommend it! Many great ideas inside.
Of course my all time favourite is the Complete Invocation...

I have purchased the books from Blackhart. What is different about these from many others is that the material has actually been used in performances.
It seems that so much of the material available in most 'bizarre' books could never be performed unless under strict conditions--maybe. Wasn't it Max Maven that stated that most of the material in the Invocation "has never been performed and will probably stay that way?" Don't get me wrong. I love the Invocation, but more as a mental excercise, or a catalyst to get my own creative juices flowing. As for whether to purchase Blackhart's books, advice as such is difficult to give. What works for me and serves my purpose may be entirely different for you. As a paid professional, I use two of his effects in my theatrical seances--both of which are available as effects from Blackhart and not in his books. I hope this helps--a little. Take care, Craig |

There's an excellent biblography at my friend Joe Lantiere's web site: http://members.aol.com/lantiere/booklist.htm There are quite a few listed and most ARE good ... and I have probably about 80% of these books. I will admit that some are dated, but the story-lines are still useful. Dave Birtwell |

Thanks guys,
Basically, I'm looking for about 45 mins of material which will scare the hell out of people sitting round a candle-lit table after dinner! I'm not really into too many props, or long set-ups, so (at the risk of sounding cheeky), I'm looking for some good, black, high impact ideas. I'm working through Rick Mau's Haunted book at the moment and am considering Doc Hilford's $1,000 seance - are their any other recommendations I should check out? Thanks again for your help

Rick Maue's book is excellent. Docc's $1000 Seance is good too, BUT it's not really a seance, that is in the spooky sense. It's more like a set of psychic entertainment routines. Look for threads on this book.

I have the first Black Book, and it is good - some very practical routines.

Thanks again guys!
I'm just developing a new persona, away from my usual Mr Nice Guy mentalist. I've found out it's more fun being evil

Also, IF you can find a copy, "Seance" is a wonderful book to supplement your collection.

If you looking for an effect with very little props (a few tarot cards and a black ribbon) do check out "Curse of the black Death" in the Black Hart Books. Solid gold and a great story. I use it all the time.

Thank you for your kind comments about 'The Black Books'. Indeed, everything in them is a genuine and performable effect. I certainly agree with Max Maven though.
Take a look at our website and feel free to email any questions about any of the effects. I will give you an HONEST opinion as to whether the particular effect is suitable for what you need. We do not want to sell you things that are not suitable - that would be bad for our business. I am working on a couple of new effects at the moment. They will NOT be on sale untill I have used them on the public and am happy with them. Same goes for the items in the books. Black Hart
