Have seen many, but quality is usually poor. Anyone happy with one they purchased and if so, where did you get it?

Losander seems to have a really nice idea for the dancing cane. His gimmick will actually retract into the cane itself. I think his products are carried at Hocus Pocus.

When looking for a dancing cane, it is important that it look nice from a distance. But it is extremely important that it be well balanced to give it the floating effect you desire. How this cane looks close up is not as important (in my opinion) since it is meant as a stage effect. People are not supposed to get a close up examination of it.

You will also want to consider light and background when performing the dancing cane effect. In fact, these are the key reasons why many people get frustrated with it. Once you master these challenges, however, you will have a wonderfully unique effect to add to your show.

I have a Creekmore. Nice cane. I don't do the cane in shows, it's more of a toy for me.

Dr. Bob, Dirk Losander's cane has wonderfully easy to master balance point because the thread exits the cane from just above the center point.

It also retracts via a weight into the cane so that you end clean.

Depending on your performance style, Jeff McBride has just released the Vortex cane. To be effective, it needs to be performed in semi-darkness as it lights up. Limited quantities are being produced. It would work well with the multicolored lights that Jay Scott Berry sells.

I like the vortex cane (Mcbride) it gives me a reason to dim the lights a bit!
How many act do we see in full lights & when they do this effect they work with almost no lights on....(almost total dark)
(& why are so many canes black ? it doesn't show to well on stage!)

Abbott's Magic sells a GREAT aluminum dancing cane. I've had fine for years and I love it. Polished aluminum tips and it breaks down for packing. Well balanced and the price is very fair. I'm not sure if they still carry them, but it's worth a try.

Stevens Magic Emporium is currently selling anAMAZING dancing cane. It actually looks like an old cane/walking stick. Its got a cherry shaft and it's so light.. claims to be a third the weight of the creekmore. I've seen the thread.. and its so thin that I bought a spool to use with other floating stuff too.. can't see it in my living room most of the time. Why do a floating routine in the dark when you can do it under most normal stage conditions?

Helpful hint for practicing: Don't bother with the thin and fragile (and expensive) invisible thread when rehersing. I use dental floss so the thread doesn't break when I try a new move or wear through after extended work. When I go to perform I install a new loop of thread and I don't have to worry about how much wear is on it.

Personally, of the 3 I have, I like the Precision Magic Dancing cane the best. Get it with David Mann's DVD and you'd be able to do many new moves.

I have a Creekmore as well. Nothing quite like it but I'm sure there are others that are very nice I just like my design. I have a classic as well as a gold one with the jewel on the top.

I also recently got that McBride Vortex. Haven't performed it yet though.

I own a very cheap cane that I bought at Hocus Pocus in NY city. I had tried other expensive canes and none of them came close to the balance of the $10 cane I bought. It's a wooden black cane with silver tape spiraling down the cane. This was my favorite cane until I bought a creekmore on Ebay.... The Creekmore is hands down the best cane I have ever tried.

I have to agree with the Creekmore fans. The Creekmore cane is perfect, I have used a few and you just can not beat the craftmanship! Never forget, David Copperfield used the same cane on TV. I pride myself on my cane technique. Trust me when I say the Creekmore is the best.

And if you get a losander cane be careful. the are easily breakable. although nice be VERY VERY CAREFUL even more so than a creekmore. I love the creekmore canes. they are awesome. and if you don't do a cane Abe can make a lot of other canes custom.
