You want to hear a series of palindromes done perfectly? Find "Poodle Hat" by Weird Al Yankovich. One of the songs on the CD is "Bob" a series of palindromes done in the style of Bob Dylan doing "Subterranian Homesick Blues."

When you gotta call a spade a spade, you can't afford to say or write 'garden implement' so you pick something close.

I'm just curious.If Kilometre is pronounced 'Kilom-mitter'(in US),is 1 metre(UK) equal to 1 mitter in the US?

I've heard is pronounced " kiLameter " (empahsis on the second sylable)

though usually we discuss distance in miles.

We also tend to use yards instead of meters.

It seems only the parmaceutical industry (illict too) uses the cgs or KMs system here... okay and some car parts places. Smile

The physical sciences use metric also. Anyone remember the brouhaha when some NASA scientists claimed that the reason one of their items didn't work correctly was that they had done some of the measurements using the English system? BS!

Bill, even the physical scientists fill up their car gas tankes using pumps that offer gallons and the prices are in dollars per gallon. Liters are... not a part of our everyday reality here.

I'm referring strictly to the labs and the research facilities, not the "real world" the scientists actually live in.

It's kind of interesting that the medical field still uses mixed systems. Measurements of blood pressure and temperature are English, as is weight. Other items are done in metric, except for units of blood.
